My goal is to provide adequate time to write recommendation letters to my teachers/counselors by letting them know in advance. Unfortunately, the portal doesn't open until May 1st. Until then, what is requested of educators is a mystery to me and any help would be appreciated.

What I was hoping to know is:
1. Who is supposed to write recommendation letters for USMMA (teachers/counselors)?
2. What is the specific prompt, if any?
3. What is the desired length of those recommendation letters?

Thank you!

Most of the recommendation letters will be electronically sent to your counselor or teachers through your portal when that opens. Once your portal opens all this info will be available to you. You will use their email and they will be sent directly to them so you will never see them. Hand written/typed recommendations may be asked for by your MOC. Check their websites to see what is required and when those are due. Good luck!

And one last question, do you know what the prompt is for the recommendation? (e.g. why is xyz the best candidate, or is it open ended) Also, what is the word maximum for the recommendation? (e.g. 500 or 800 word limit)

As I recall it isn't a prompt. From what teachers shared with my son it was a questionnaire with space for remarks. You will need your senior math, English and chem/physics teacher's email and work phone number to input into the portal. They should check their spam folders.
Explain it to them in advance and explain how much this means to you and enlist their support.
Member of Congress process may differ and require specific letters of recommendation. Each moc does it differently. Start early, monitor deadlines.
