Hey guys. Quick question. I'm looking on the various ROTC scholarship websites but cannot find anything if they require letters of recommendation. I'm a high school senior right now. Does Army ROTC, NAVY/AIR FORCE ROTC require them? Thank you

Maybe they are not called recommendation letters, but "evaluations"? Thanks

The Marine Option NROTC application sent links to teachers (I think English and/or math) and to the counselor to do an evaluation, but no letters of reference -- if I remember correctly when my son was working on his a couple of years ago. I remember that he had to contact his teachers to make sure they checked their spam folder for the links.

Don't remember any required for AROTC other than guidance counselor I think.

For AROTC when my son set up his interview , the ROO said to bring any letters of recommendation that he would like the PMS to see. Since he already had letters for USMA, he took copies of those.

Navy option requires Math, Guidance and one other...Marine Corp Option, English, Guidance and one other, Navy Nurse option Science, Guidance and one other. You will provide their email and the NROTC folks will send them a link for them to answer questions (comparing you to others, top ???% in various categories) and then ask for comments (essentially a recommendation) best advice..You should have Guidance, Math, English and one other (who can provide that holistic picture of you) ready to rock for Navy ROTC and Academy packages. My son received an Immediate Selection Reservation for a NROTC scholarship. This was awarded to him from the recruiting district. Essentially, he has rec scholarship this year without his package going to the board. If you have questions on the NROTC process, give me a shout. Academy appointments are still magic to all of us. Do one really knows how it works. We are in the hurry up and wait mode.

Army ROTC doesn't ask for them. They give you the ability to upload them, but my belief is they aren't going to get looked at.

I base that belief on two things:
The board has limited time to review a lot of files. I'm surprised they manage to look at transcripts, interview results, and PFT scores without adding LORs
What is an LOR going to say...this kid is great and deserves a scholarship. You wouldn't be applying if that wasn't already true.
