I am a current Naval Academy Applicant who has been seeing CPR for what seems like forever. I was just blessed to receive a NROTC to Penn State. In case I get rejected I want to know what I should spend the most time improving on if I still have the burning desire to reapply.
ACT (31 Math, 32 English)
GPA 3.71 Unweighted Top 10 Percent
Swim Team Captain
4 Varsity Letters in Swim(5 school records)
3 Varsity Letters in Soccer with a state tournament appearance(Fourth season ongoing)
120+ hours of leading elementary-aged students in Sunday School
Boys State Candidate(COVID Cancellation)
HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar(Zoom)
Thank you so much for your time and help.

Be a good mate to your NROTC crew, and look for leadership opportunities. Knock the grades out of the park, mirroring a plebe like schedule!

Also be open to your journey. You very well may fall in love with NROTC 💯

I just wish USNA would give me a decision haha.

I wrote this in another thread yesterday and that advice stands.

“Having been through this process 3 times (twice with desired results), I honestly feel that any candidate who has made it this far without a TWE is a solid candidate and should be proud of his/her accomplishment. The process is no joke and a learning experience. There are so many great candidates but ultimately USNA just runs out of spots, it’s that simple. The waiting is hard and the letdown hurts, but this is an opportunity for personal growth.

The first time our DS didnt get the desired result, the end result was still positive. I’ve said it before but he still says the first TWE was the best thing that ever happened to him. He spent the remainder of senior year improving what he could and getting ready for NROTC (no scholarship). Get things off the plate: 1. Workout and max CFA early before the weather is too hot; 2. Sign up for June SAT/ACT, study (will be easy since classes are winding down) and improve! (Impossible not to improve with dedicated studying and an extra year of math!); 3. Make sure your classes at plan B look like a plebe schedule (mostly easy since gen ed requirements can be used and not set back); 4. Plan to love your next year!; 5. Mid-fall think about what you’ve learned and how you have grown and write an essay. The re-application process is a little less daunting because you’ve done it before; 6. Line up new recommendations with either college prof or senior year teacher (but different than first round); 7. Look for silver linings. DS had a great freshman year that prepared him immensely for plebe year.

Congrats to all April candidates (and parents)! Stay strong.”

The PSU unit is great! If that is your path for next year, embrace it. Participate in drill and learn from your leaders. Soak it all up. Plan on reapplying even if you don’t ultimately make the jump to USNA. Go to the football game and then finish the day in the library. You have an excellent plan B! Congrats!!!!!

Look at the stickied thread about re-applicants. Tons of good advice there (and much mirrored here).

Main thing is, don't submit the same old same old next round. Show that you have improved, are taking a comparable course load, looked for opportunities for leadership, and became a physically fit specimen. Give them no reasons NOT to consider you the next round.

And you aren't out of the game yet if you haven't received a TWE!
