With all admission requirements being equal for each applicant, what does a "Recruited Athlete" added to an admission folder mean? My DS primary goal is to get admissions at an academy and ultimately serve his country with sports being an added bonus. I’ve read other threads, but it’s still clear as mud. Can someone clarify the good, bad and indifferent aspects of a “Recruited Athlete”?

Depends on the academy, the sport, and the coach. USMMA and USCGA are Division III schools, so "recruited athlete" means something way different than the other three service academies which are Division I schools. The recruiting rules vary greatly between D-I and D-III. For USMMA, I would recommend your DS making contact with the coach of his sport via email. The coach can help pair your DS up with a student athlete in his sport for an overnight visit. Your DS can hear first hand what the sport is like and can usually attend a practice. Good luck.
