What happens if a cadet who was a recruited athlete wants to quit his sport? Is that even possible? Obviously very different from other colleges where they are on scholarship. Just curious, my cadet is not a recruited athlete.

Happens all the time. Disappointing to the coach and team, obviously, but the cadet does not leave the academy.

Since no one pays any tuition at an SA, even a recruited athlete can quit their sport at any time. You don't lost anything by giving up the sport and several older threads on here talk about how often that happens either due to time commitments or other factors.

Thanks that's what I thought. I can certainly understand why many would, the workload must be really tough for some.

More like INSANELY tough for Corps Squad athletes...especially for a plebe. Your average CS 4C is also required to do his/her share of duties..they're constantly sensitive about how they're perceived by their peers and upperclass. Let's not forget adjusting to the crazy academics during the week and limited time on weekends especially for away games.

Do the comparison with your average SEC/Big10/Pac12 D1 football recruit and a service academy player...There is none.

I'm reminded of a famous quote by Gen Marshall: "I want an officer for a secret and dangerous mission. I want a West Point Football player!"

As stated above, a recruited athlete may continue their education at a SA when they leave their sport. For those thinking about attending a SA that have athletic talent, I would encourage you to exploit your abilities and apply for a SA. All SA are Military Officer factories, and this should be your main goal.
