Reduction in force USAF

Hornet, I love you, but there has to be a back story regarding the Rhodes Scholar being RIF'd since the AF did not cut like they did in 92-93. (95% of non-full commissioned). I am betting there was a desk drawer 15 or DUI.

For example 2 2nd LTs AFA grads on casual status at SJAFB before going to UPT got a DUI...they lost their UPT slot, but if they were in the RIF yr they would have also been on the chopping block.

SA cadets need to understand that THEY no longer have a FULL COMMISSIONING. Yrs ago they came in with a full and that meant ROTC/OTS/OCS would be cut before them. Now they are just as vulnerable for RIFS as the ROTC/OTS/OCS, there is no safety net.

I think the term you're looking for here is "REGULAR" commission as opposed to "RESERVE" commission.

There's no such beast as a "not full commission..."

(Couldn't resist Pima, sorry... )

Also, since the Military Authorization Act of 2005, all SA grads have received Regular commissions.

Right- in fact what the 2005 Defense Authorization act changed was that all serving active duty officers are regulars . Prior to that - the law had been changed in order to equalize things for all commissioning sources- all initial commissions were reserve commissions SA or ROTC. Prior to that All SA commissions & ROTC Distinguished Military Cadets were RA (Regular Army) while all other sources were Reserve commissions (even though they may have been on active duty) until they were augmented or they got to 20 years at which point someone with USAR after their name had to retire from Active duty). RA theoretically protected you from a RIF although in the post-VietNam Army RIF RA's got scooped in 1974 as well as USAR commissions. It's much simpler now.

With the exception of CGA, which has always been regular.

Nope, the person was just so far behind their peer group in their AFSC that they got hit. Even with the scholarship! It's something I will have to watch out for.
