(Actually, my DD won't be at Swab Summer for another year, she has been accepted to the Scholars program and is preparing for her orientation this summer. However, I figure a lot more people here on the forum would be familiar with Swab Summer regulations, so I posted it for a wider audience!)

We are unsure how literally to take the list of required items to bring in the summer. Specifically...

1. Does she really need three regular bras? She prefers sports bras anyway. Are there times when it is dictated that she wears a regular bra?

2. They say "full-coverage" underwear. Must these be briefs or can she wear bikinis or hipsters?

3. Any advice as where to find all-white TUBE socks? Are colored logos acceptable?

Also, on other boards I have read of women at other SAs wearing compression shorts. Would you recommend these?

Am I correct in assuming that these items will be trashed at the end of orientation? It is only three weeks; It would be ideal if she could pack them away and reuse them during Swab Summer.

Any other advice would be appreciated!

Good Questions!

1. She doesn't need the regular bras, they just look better with the tropical blue uniform. She'll definitely prefer sports bras during CGAS.

2. Granny Panties are a must! :shake: Just kidding, any type of underwear she is comfortable with (minus thongs!) are fine. Just make sure they're white.

3. I'm pretty sure I got my socks from Target or Walmart in the Fruit of the Loom package.

I didn't wear compression shorts but I would recommend them for the utility uniform (ODUs). They prevent chafing so that's a plus.

Also, one go through the wash and the white stuff will be gray. They're not trashed necessarily but I doubt she'll want to reuse the underwear and such for swab summer.

trackandfield08, thanks so much for your feedback. I think we'll have her take regular bras but just not send them to the laundry - they are nice ones.

Your answers prompted a few more questions...

1. Are ODUs the uniform they wear during CGAS summer? Swab summer?

2. Wouldn't she want to save the dingy stuff for swab summer since it will get icky this summer anyway? Or is it important to start with everything fresh?

3. Speaking of laundry... Can you do your own laundry once the regular school year starts?

Also, are you a runner? DD was able to work out with the distance runners when she did CFAD. I think the indoor track season was just starting then.

i'm at west point..so take with a grain of salt, but compression shorts saved my life during our training, make sure they don't ride up, and cover the inner thigh to prevent chaffing.

I brought enough underwear to last over half of the summer (almost 3 weeks worth.)

I had one regular bra that i wore with our duty unifrom (same as the tropical blue uniform)

get durable sports bras, but not expensive..and plenty. They get dirty/ sweat ridden quickly and heat rash will form underneath if you're not careful.

On heat rash: baby powder is great for those areas to repel rashes and infection. do NOT use deodorant, it stops sweating which is counterproductive to cooling down.

1. They wear modified ODUs I believe, which basically is the uniform, but without the blouse. You wear the same thing for swab summer. During the school year, we wear ODUs twice a week.

2. You can definitely save the dingy stuff for swab summer if you want. But they do get gross like Stephanie said so I would honestly play it by ear. The underwear I would definitely get rid of and get new ones. Sports bras, I honestly have one or two that weren't trashed as much and I still wear them.

3. During swab summer, the cadre do your laundry initially. But by the end of the summer, you'll be doing your own. Everyone does their own laundry during the school year, which is nice, because then you can separate things.

I do run, but not for the Academy. I ran track in middle school and high school but I have a greater passion for my faith and music/drama so that is what I focus on here. I still run for fun though. I have plenty of friends on the track team as well.
