Rejected again...

No offense to AFA, but their main focus is combat, which I didn't really like. CGA focuses on humanitarian missions. So would I rather save a person's life or kill it? haha, I guess if I were in CGA and were commanded to kill an enemy, I would - but I prefer to save lives :shake: I'm not saying that I'm going to be a disobedient officer and allow enemies to burn/kill America, but if given the choice to avoid situations like that, I would definitely stray away! :) CGA looked much more favorable to me after that whole thought process and I was 90% sure that I would commit to CGA.

There's nothing funny about having to kill someone.

USAF Combat Controllers performed lots of humanitarian missions in Haiti with they were hit with earthquakes.

Also, Pararescuemen-- they save lives more than anything.

Coasties have a very important mission-- so congratulations. However, there's no need to make false accusations about the Air Force.

And since you threw religion into your post, the bible says to obey the orders of those appointed over you. I'll stop it at that.

Good luck!

Would you or anyone mind posting what scripture that quote is from? I'd like to know it so that I can use it when people argue that true Christians or Muslims(as they read the bible also in addition to the Qu'ran) are disobeying God by joining the military. Thanks!

cchung,

My best wishes to you at the CGA. CG has an asset with you as a future officer.

That being stated, I am with CC regarding his post.

I am sure you didn't mean to infer or imply that the other branches want to be in a war, but that is what you did.

You implied/inferred that the CG is about saving lives, and the others are "war mongers".

Leave humanitarian air drops aside, let's address the fact that our military strength is a deterrent to countries.

Let's address what they have done to save innocent lives in other countries since you were a glimmer in your Mom's eye.

~~~ Iraq invading Kuwait --- Kuwait was helpless
~~~ Iraq gassing their own citizens (Kurds)
~~~ Somalia --- War lords
~~~ Haiti
~~~ Kosovo --- genocide/mass graves
~~~ Afghanistan --- killing their citizens in soccer fields, like Roman times.

We sent troops to defend the weak. Our air drops that the AF did included food and medical supplies. Our airstrikes stopped genocide.

Is it hard on those fliers knowing they may have caused hardship to innocent lives? Yes, but their actions saved many more innocent lives.

I have a lot of thoughts on the current subject of this thread; however, as I just have a few minutes before I need to be in the car I would like to add one thing. My son received an appointment to USCGA, he also has Army ROTC and Navy ROTC scholarship offers. Just a few weeks ago I thought (and even mentioned on this forum) that he was going to take the Army offer and run with it; however, he has given all his offers some very serious thought. We sat down as a family on Easter and talked. The issue of CG’s mission of saving lives and the Army’s mission of taking lives came up. After a very serious discussion (one that left his mother in tears) he informed us that this subject was bothering him a lot. I mentioned to him that being trained to take lives can save lives. If the worst happens (armed conflict) then going and doing what you where trained to do in the best manner possible can save lives in the long run. We talked about what Pima mentioned, we send troops to defend the weak. We talked about both sides of the issue for a very long time. He told me a day later that he had really thought about what we had talked about and it really made sense to him. He said he knew that all along, he just needed someone to remind him. He still has not 100 percent made up his mind but at least there seems to be one issue off the table.

I say that to say this: Guys, remember when the crap hits the fan we are all on the same team. I have had the privilege to serve as a probation/parole officer for 17 years. Much of my job has me sitting behind a desk or in the court room. However, I also work in the field several days and or nights a week. It varies from state to state but in my state PPOs carry firearms, wear body armor in the field, carry police radios, have power of arrest and etc. We arrest bad guys, conduct searches and a lot of other stuff. Trust me, when you need help, you don’t care what color the car the guy coming to help you is, what his badge says, whether the Feds, state or county government pays his salary, you are just glad he is there!

Falcon Scholarship?

My son received a Falcon Scholarship offer about 3 - 4 weeks after being denied. He took it, went to a Jr. Military College for 1 year, re-applied and is now a Cadet. Were you offered a Falcon Scholarship?
