Rejected USCGA Class of 2025

Do you have these profiles? I don't believe I have seen any of the graduation profiles compared to the incoming class. What do you mean by eye-opening?
It means not to get stuck over what anyone else's application looks like. Even the ones who get there are in a non stop pressure cooker. A second year applicant may have the better advantage once there.

@alaska66 I agree. I'm not sure what @No1Fanof2 was suggesting about comparing the incoming year to the graduating year being eye-opening. I believe the Coast Guard has great retention of their cadets completing all four years and even continuing to a full 20-year career.
While the retention rate seems acceptable, it is a hard realization for some parents that just because DS/DD cleared the hurdle of appointment/acceptance, that does not guarantee they will graduate and commission. It is a long, 4 years, and many events can lead to DOR or disenrollment...right up until graduation (seems to happen every year). Nothing is assured until that diploma and commission is in hand, and I believe parents need to always have that reality in the back of their mind.

Yes, getting accepted is only the beginning of the journey.

... others that make it through to graduation and commission, don't make it through the five year service committment, also a reality ...

Oh wasn't aware of that. What could be the reasons?

There was a cadet in DS's class that was in the process of disenrollment. Everyone knew except the parents. It was sad seeing his mother in the exchange over parent's weekend, buying all the latest USCGA gear, and her cadet was almost out the door.

What's the current situation with cadets being disenrolled in 1/c & 2/c years regarding educational pay back?

The last update to the Statement of Obligation and Acceptance I have in my file is dated in 2017. In that update, it states for 1/c and 2/c cadets:

"No Prior Armed Forces Obligation. First and second class cadets who accepted an appointment without any prior obligation to the U.S. Armed Forces who resign, are disenrolled, or are summarily dismissed will transfer to Coast Guard Reserve, for a period of Extended Active Duty (EAD) service equal to their service as a cadet. Generally, this means service as a Boatswain’s Mate 3rd class or as non-rated personnel with immediate application to any A-school. Any cadet the Superintendent determines has breached the service obligation agreement and is ineligible for continued military service may be required to reimburse the U.S Government for the cost of the education following a final determination from Commandant (CG-1)."

It also further defines repayment:

"current estimated cost of these advanced education benefits is $61,390.00 per academic year, but that this amount may change."

The Coast Guard would rather have those 1/c and 2/c who are disenrolled to payback with service, if at all possible. 4/c and 3/c who are disenrolled are not responsible for any payback, service-wise or monetary.

That is so heart breaking.

I dont frquent the site as often as before, but do you have the incoming class profile along with the same classes graduation profile? I believe seeing those figures are eyeopeners. No one likes to talk about the ending profile numbers its always why my kid didnt get in, what my kids application looked like.

Here is the incoming class profile for the class of 2024 https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?attachments/0001-jpg.6165/

Maybe we can help next year's applicants improve their chances or better gauge their competitiveness.
