Hi everyone,

This may seem like a foolish question, but does USMA send out rejection letters? I know there are DQs based upon the DODMERB, but will there be rejection letters when the admissions board is done with reviewing my file? Personally, I don’t think I have a large chance of being admitted, and I’d at least want to have a rejection letter to commemorate my hard work this past year in the application process.

My understanding is that they will send a letter, one way or the other, but not until either someone fails to secure a nomination or (if a complete application has been submitted) till the very end of the admissions process cycle (maybe late April or May.) My DS was fortunate enough to obtain three appointments and I remember asking academies, “will you notify him if he is not successful?” and being told (by at least one) that they do send out letters to all who complete applications one way or the other. Think positive though! Good luck and thank you for your willingness to serve.

Just FYI…. My DS was very late - but applied to USMMA as his backup and got the appointment, then USNA came through. His first choice was USMA though - but due to a head injury several years ago was worried that USMA might not give him a waiver but Navy would (USMMA also goes by Navy Reserves standards for it’s medical waivers.) He would have been happy with any of the academies but feels like he has found his home at West Point!

Also remember, until you get a formal notice of rejection from West Point, then you are still in the running for an appointment. Some candidates will not find out about an offer of admission until after the normal deadline at the end of April because candidates sometimes wait till the last minute to make final decisions, which leaves other candidates waiting in limbo.
