relationship officer and enlisted

I would probably go as far as saying that the enlisted and commissioned chasm of military structure is a form of class conflict.

Mixed ranks among siblings is more common than you would think, and many parents are still on AD when children come in. Those are familial relationships. Common sense and professionalism apply. No issue of fraternization, unless something inappropriate happened where favoritism was shown, but efforts would be made to ensure they are never in a chain of command together. A USNA sponsor daughter had her newly minted Marine enlisted brother come give her first salute on Comm Day. Major photo op of a special moment.
Approx 10 mins after I graduated USNA, I reenlisted my father up on the (now vacant) stage at N&MCMS. Picture and story on page 2 of Navy Times.
To stay on topic, nobody considered it a frat issue.
He did not give the first salute, that was my 3/C Midn cousin.

^ ... and it wasn't even a long drive! I love seeing those new Marine Officers in their Service A's on a commissioning day at the museum. They're everywhere!!! It's cool how Chesty Puller 'looks over' them from the chapel on the hill. Parking is hell though!

Only a couple miles up the road. He commissioned a couple months after his OCS class. He did two courses to finish a minor and graduated too late to get in on the mass commissioning. It worked out really nice. I reserved a corner in the mess hall (second deck of museum) and had a cake and gifts such as a K-Bar on a plaque, a second lieutenant sticker so he could utilize parking reserved just for LTs, and a couple other odds and ends. We set out about 30 chairs for guests but the crowd grew larger. We had lived at Ft. Belvoir housing for six years and he had met numerous people mainly from the two base gyms and we had people show up I didn't even know. We had around 100 people in attendance and that's not including the museum visitors who stopped to watch. It's been several years but but thankfully good memories last for awhile.
