Hello,
I am applying for admission to West Point and have completed everything. I just got my DoDMERB back, and I have a few remedial codes that need to be worked out. I was wondering if anyone would have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this. I received the codes because when I was younger I was placed on ADD meds and then during my sophomore year of high school went off the meds as directed by my doctor. This was at West points mandatory two years off mark. Once I went off the meds, my grades immediately increased as well as my participation in activities. It was apparent that the meds were holding me back instead of helping. The second code was for a concussion I received while playing basketball last year. The concussion was a medium degree concussion, but I sadly had to sit out of sports for close to 3 months. The doctors after re-assessing figured out that it wasn't healing as fast because my glasses prescription was incorrect. After fixing that, my concussion got better, and I was able to return fully to sports. I am now the captain of Basketball and Lacrosse something that would not have been permitted if I was concussed. My primary question and concern are what I can do to make these codes clear and could these be a detrimental factor on my application as a whole? Also any suggestions for making the process move faster? Any advice is gladly accepted.
Thank you!

What information are the looking for? All medical records pertaining to you ADD and concussion? If that is what they want that is what you need to provide. You need Dr records, reports, tests and opinions that support your story. It is important that the info is from your Doctors. They don't want to hear it from you, DoDMERB wants to hear it from physicians.

Have you received a remedial letter?
That should tell you exactly what they want.

@5Day Do you think it would be helpful if my teachers and coaches wrote a supplemental letter as well saying that for the ADD meds that my academics improved impeccably after getting off the medicine. As well as one from the coaches explaining how the concussion has not held me back.

@AJC For the ADD code I know I need a letter from my college counselor specifying if I had an IEP or any accommodations(which I never had). I am not sure what they need for the concussion, yet I just received the letter in the mail, but on my portal they did state, I would need a doctors note.

For the concussion you will probably asked to fill out the head injury questionnaire.
You can find that on the DoDMERB site under FORMS.
They might ask for medical records related to the concussion.
A concussion is not an automatic DQ so DoDMERB can clear that with the proper information.
Don't be so sure you know what they want.
They will tell you what they want, send them what they ask for, other stuff may not even get looked at.
Unsolicited information may allude to aspects of a condition that they were not aware of.
Better to; listen to the questions, answer the questions.
5Day is correct when he says they want to hear from Doctors, Doctors are like that.

@AJC Thank you. Others told me that it helped to send in external information, but I agree with you that it may bring up other issues. Do you know if ADD is a DQ?

No idea about that.
When you get your remedial letter things should be clearer.

Since DoDMERB asked for a letter from your counselor, I would see if somehow your counselor could incorporate and attach your teacher and coaches letters. Work with your counselor, do all the leg work gathering the extra letters. You could even help draft the counselor's response, or make suggestions on how they could incorporate information from the extra letters. You could also take that same approach with your doctors. They may be able to incorporate that information into their diagnosis or opinion.

Also referenced above was a head injury questionnaire. You can find the form here: https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Forms.aspx

So it said in my letter that I got the D code: 211.50 but the explanation is for associated post injury manifestation which I never had. I called to ask, and the lady on the phone didn't give me a clear answer as to what that means. I have to other remedial codes that are pretty easy to get information on, and I hope to get cleared for but how could I get disqualified for something that I never had. I have heard that a Larry Mullen has been very helpful to many people but wasn't sure if he was around anymore. Is my only option to clear up the other Remedial's and then hoping to get a waiver?
