Hi everyone,

I was notified that a remedial was requested for my DODMERB on the 31st of October. It's been three weeks now since the packet was sent and I still haven't received it. Just wondering if this is within the normal time range or if I should contact DODMERB/Concorde to request more info.

Thanks for the help.

I would have given it 2 weeks and then call DoDMERB. So give them a call tell them you have not yet received your remedial instructions and see what they say. Three weeks may well be within the norm, but it would be on the long side.

If you call tomorrow, odds are that the package will show up in your mailbox tomorrow afternoon. LOL

Thanks. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Your probably right about when it will arrive, though.

My DS checked his medical status on DoDMERB and as of today it says REMEDIAL REQUESTED. Will he be getting an email or letter in the mail specifying what it is? I assume it's due to him taking Accutane earlier in the year however, I'm not sure. He has a dermatologist appointment tomorrow and I thought I should print the form on the DoDMERB site to have the dermatologist fill out to get a jump start. Good idea or do we wait? He completed his accutane treatment in May. From the time it say's REMEDIAL, how long does it take for him to find out what it is? The only other thing it could be would be allergy shots he got as a child (maybe 8 yrs. old) for environmental allergies...pollen, etc. or a hairline fracture that he had on his foot (we don't even remember which one) at 6 years old. Any input from anyone who had a remedial is appreciated. Thanks!

No Codes?
Have DS call DoDMERB before you go the the Doctor. They may be able to tell you over the phone what the remedial for or what information they need. It could be a records request, of specific or all medical records. Or it could be for a specialist to check DS out.

You could have the dermatologist fill out the form, but do not submit it until you know that is what they want. At a minimum, while at the dermatologist, have them add "resolved" to DS medical record.

Thanks 5Day! No codes listed on the portal. I figured I would call tomorrow while he is at school seeing that it's medical and he's 17. I'm not sure if he has to be 18 to call since it's medical related. This is all new to me!
I will make sure to have the dermatologist add that to his record. Coincidentally, his dermatologist is a veteran.

My DD just got the same message. She also took Acutane so that's probably what it is. We were told she may need a waiver for that since it's such a harsh drug. I will also call tomorrow.
I'm curious, though. Is this the same thing as needing a waiver? Do we have to wait for the SA to request one or is this something different?

You are being asked for a remedial. DoDMERB needs additional information before they can make a decision or they need more information for your file so the waiver authority (SA in this case) can make a decision.

Copy and paste from a response I wrote today, so only close:
If the SA determines that you are "competitive for an offer of appointment" the waiver process will start automatically.

Some DoDMERB documents to help you understand the process one is a FAQ and the other is a remedial/waiver flow chart.
https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Con...ate) Reference Document as of 12 May 2016.pdf
https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Content/MedicalWaiverConsideration.pdf

5. Service Academies = If you are determined to be “competitive for an offer of appointment” (determined by the Offices of Admissions), medical waiver consideration will be automatically requested on your behalf. You are NOT required to request a medical waiver. Conversely, if you are not competitive for an offer of appointment, either after evaluation or because enough of the application has NOT been completed, there will be no medical waiver consideration. There may be periods in between, where the Admissions office has NOT made this determination yet.

Just found codes. It was on the dodmerb account. Asking for a urinalysis with microscopy or something to that effect. I wonder if that has to do with the acutane she took 18 months ago.

A remedial asking for a urinalysis with microscopy most likely it is high protein in DD urine. It is a common failure, especially in physically active young males. You can call and ask why. My DS had the same remedial. There are instructions on one of the documents that your DD got that tells them to refrain from strenuous physical activity 2-3 days prior to the exam. When DS went back we picked a monday morning (mornings are better) and had a lazy weekend before. He drank so much water that evening and morning I thought he was going to float away. Also, you want to make sure it is a mid-stream sample. Here are some instructions http://www.healthlabtesting.com/~/m...is or Culture and Susceptibility Studies.ashx

Follow the instructions and your DD should be good to go. Also, it looks like taking Accutane will not be an issue for your DD.

I'm looking at the Dodmerb account now but in the codes section it is blank. It say Dec 1 Date Exam Reviewed. Perhaps they haven't input the code yet. Seeing how he has a Dr. Appt today I'll call to see what additional information they need.

Does it say "Letter Sent"?
sometimes the codes will not appear until the letter has been sent.

Thanks for the great info. DD had been prepping for the CFA so that is probably what the issue is. she plays varsity basketball now and her coach works them out 2 hours a day but no games or practice this weekend and she has a tremendous amount of studying to do so Monday morning would be perfect. I'll call dr. today for appt.

Probably too early for codes. DD said date exam reviewed was Nov. 18 and the code came on the 28th.

DoDMETS will have the provider for the urinalysis, if you use that provider there is no fee. But you probably already know that.

I did not know that! would it be faster for my DD to use her own Dr.? He's down the street and I have a rediculous amount of flexspending to use before dec. 31.

From DoDMETS faq. It refers to the medical exam and not the remedial. You can use your own doctor on your own dime for the remedial, but contact DoDMETS first for instructions.
MEDICAL EXAM FAQ
Q: Do I need to go to the Doctor assigned to me on my appointment card?
A: Yes. It is imperative that you go to the Doctor assigned to you by Concorde. Concorde is the only one that can authorize you to go to a different facility. Failure to do this may cause you to be responsible for the payment of the medical exam.
Q: Am I responsible for payment of the medical exam?
A: No. Concorde has contracted with local physicians in all 50 States to provide the required medical and optometric examinations. If your assigned Doctor asks for payment or authorization to do testing beyond the required physical, please call Concorde -immediately at (215) 587-9600.
Q: What should I do if I cannot login?
A: If you are having trouble logging in, please contact Concorde at (215) 587-9600 and someone will assist you.
Q: Can I start completing my medical requirements if I have not yet received a packet?
A: No. Unfortunately you must wait until you receive your medical packet from Concorde.

Well last night and early this morning it said REMEDIAL REQUESTED and it has now changed with today's date saying QUALIFIED.
They must have received the information that they needed to change the status perhaps by reviewing further or calling the Dr. listed. I have no idea,
just happy to see the change. Best of luck to everyone!

Don't question why, just walk away.
My son has been waiting going on 8 months for a waiver.
Glad to see you have been spared the process
