Remedial Required :(

So I just checked the DoDMERB page and my status says Remedial Required. :'( What do I need to do now?

The Remedial code will be updated in a few days, however if you call your medical technician, they can give you the code over the phone, and tell you what the remedial is. After you have the code, DoDMERB's website will have instructions of exactly how to proceed. Some remedials require additional doctors appointments, and will either use a Concorde contracted doctor, or your own physician. Some remedials will only require you to fill out forms or mail stuff in. It could be quick process, or a long one. For example, I was requested a remedial which required me to send in pictures of a burn scar. I got the code over the phone, and had already sent the pictures to DoDMERB even before the code was updated online. They reviewed and gave a qualified status within 1 week. Hopefully yours will one of these short and simple remedials

I'd like to add, a request for a remedial doesn't mean it's over. It means they need more information to qualify you. This isn't bad or good, as they try to qualify as many people as possible so they have a large pool of applicants to choose from.

If you go to your portal>DoDMERB website>Contacts tab

Assigned Medical Technicians by Applicant's "Last Name"

First 3 Last Name Technician Name Phone Number
A - COK Robin Solomon 719-333-7160
COL - GRAG AnnaMarie Stowe 719-333-7093
GRAH - LAMB Kathleen Ometer 719-333-7081
LAMC - OLB Karla Passer 719-333-7263
OLC - SLOU Phyllis Gladden 719-333-7323
SLOV - Z Kenneth Payne 719-333-7221

This isn't necessarily bad. I had a required remedial (no more physicians appointments though) and had to send in a complete history of every medical file on record for me, from birth to present, as well as a few other things. My remedial was finally reviewed yesterday and my portal was update as "qualified" just a couple of hours ago. Don't give up! Good luck!

Not only did DS need a remedial for a cyst removal in his wrist he also needed a waiver for concussions "with symptoms lasting more than 1 month". Remedial was a doctor letter to follow up the surgery. That was the easy fix and the notice from DoDMerb told us exactly what to do. We did add a letter from his doctor regarding the concussions, just in case. He received the waiver in the mail the day following his offer of appointment. Remedials appear to just require a bit more info than they have.

So I went to my doctor and got papers from a checkup I had a few months after the incident and it says "clear chest." Should I fax this over or get more paperwork/records such as the incident itself?

Do you even know for sure what they are wanting? If not, I'd definitely wait. They'll let you know exactly what they want. Had to do it with my DS.

Yes, I called on Wednesday and the technician told me it was the form of bronchitis I had two years ago which had me use an inhaler for around two weeks.

A Remedial is different than a Disqualification, which requires a Waiver from USNA.

A Remedial is just DoDMerb needing more information to determine if you're medically qualified and, therefore, eligible for an Appointment. You answer their request for more info. In our case, they wanted a new urine test cause his first was a little high in protein. So we went to Doctor, got a new one, sent results, and they qualified him.

Then, he got an appointment to USMMA the day after his nomination in November. 2 days later, he ended up having to have a minor surgery. Of course, we had to notify DoDMerb, sent in his records, and they medically disqualified him. Just got Waiver from USMMA & re-offer of appointment for USMMA. USNA has submitted his file for Waiver Review. But no news from them yet. They could grant it, ask for more info, or deny it, at least that's my understanding.

So I just checked my status on the DoDMERB website and I have the Remedial Code R240.00. How do I send the documents to the DoDMERB? Do I do it, or does my physician do it? Should I call my physician's office and ask them if they have any other documents regarding the issue, just in case? I believe there has to be more on file because the only one they gave me was from six months after the incident.
Thank you again.

DOES NOT REQUIRE A PHYSICIAN'S APPOINTMENT: Please provide copies (NOT ORIGINALS) of ALL treatment and/or hospitalization records REGARDING $ $$ , to include ALL applicable in-patient and out-patient records including, but not limited to, VA disability/examination records, DD Form 214, operative reports, anesthesia records, pathology reports, follow-up visits, rehabilitation records, recovery room records, x-ray reports, etc.

How to send docs:

From DoDMERD FAQ site:

10. Will you allow me to fax documents pertaining to my medical status to you?

You may fax documents pertaining to your medical status to DoDMERB.

We do ask however, if the total number of pages exceeds 15, that you mail those instead of faxing. DoDMERB has limited ability to receive faxes and faxes exceeding 15 pages could delay our ability to process your documents as quickly as possible.

Please note: If you fax documentation to DoDMERB, you DO NOT need to mail the same document(s). Our fax number is: 719-333-3578. Our mailing address is: DoDMERB, 8034 Edgerton Drive, Suite 132, United States Air Force Academy, CO 80840-2200. DoDMERB has the capability to receive all types of mail deliveries, (i.e., US Postal Service, FedEx, UPS, etc.).

My thoughts:
No one here can promise you a positive outcome. Just follow the directions of R240.00 exactly. I would not ask the physician to do the faxing, this is your future on the line. Make sure all the docs are there.

Gather the docs. If the doctor can add a favorable document to the record ask him/her to do so, especially if the doc ia familiar with DoDMERB and what is at stake.

If you wish to consult an expert, email Dr./ CAPT Glen Merchant, former director of DoDMERB, but you might not have much time here.

Here ia his website:

Good luck!

Do as requested. You send in all the medical records relevant to the condition. So I would check with your physician to make sure you have all relevant documents.

Since you not tell us the condition more specific advice is difficult. Make sure you know what it takes to be qualified with that condition. See if you can get documentation from your physician that specifically states that.

I will use dermatitis as an example since there has been a recent post about it. The standard state "Non-specific Dermatitis. Current or history of recurrent or chronic non-specific dermatitis to include contact... or dyshidrotic dermatitis requiring more than treatment with over the counter medications."
In this case it would be great if you could get documentation from your physician that states. Non-specific dermatitis only requiring treatment with OTC medication.
The did medical standards are here
http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/613003p.pdf. I think this is the most current standard.

I had a form of Bronchitis during the summer of 2014 which required me to use an inhaler. Because I had to use an inhaler they required the remedial.

Make sure you look up Bronchitus and what would allow qualification. Look for documentation from your Dr. that states that the Bronchitus is resolved, has not reoccured and the inhaler is no longer required.
