Remedials..

Good news so far...

Got a call from my congressman on my birthday Wednesday letting me know he was informed that West Point is mailing me an offer of appointment. Yesterday my status showed my waiver was approved, just need to send them my ankle stuff.

As for USAFA, I forwarded everything to DoDMERB, I'm just waiting for them to process the papers on my ankle.

Hopefully USNA will join the crowd and grant me a waiver, I'll be doing a candidate visit with them in a few weeks to try to make my decision between West Point, Annapolis, or a regular college.

Thanks again for all the help, I'll be letting you know how it goes.

Wow!! What a birthday week you've had! Congratulations on the appointment and the wavier! Great news! We'll all keep our fingers crossed for USNA! I'm glad I could be of some assistance, just know that you've done all the work, I just got you pointed in the right direction. :thumb:

Again, a HUGE congratulations!!

And happy birthday!:band:

Another update...

As of right now here's my status for all of my applications

AROTC: remedial status/post waiver review
USMA: remedial status/post waiver review
AFROTC: pending waiver submission/review
USAFA: remedial statuts/post waiver review
NROTC: still waiting for scholarship offer so not on DODMERB yet
USNA: medical waiver denied 03/05/07

My BGO's trying to see if USNA will review it again with the knowledge that everyone else has given me a medical waiver. I'll also send a request for BUMED to look at it again to DODMERB in the next few days. If I can't get it reversed there's a good chance I'll go to USMA. And I'll have to turn down my AROTC because I need longer to think than the March 21 deadline.

Only hurdle I have now is trying to get an appointment at a MTF for a foot issue and trying not to get hurt

Another question

Well, USNA will not grant me a waiver, so I sent off the postcard accepting my appointment to USMA today.

I have one more question: are extremely high arches disqualifying? I don't need orthotics or anything.

If the arches are asymptomatic, meaning they don't cause any pain or discomfort when doing any activities, it shouldn't be a problem.

Alright then, thanks. I used custom orthotics for a little while, which is why I have to get my feet looked at at a MTF. They weren't for high arches, I had a popping sound coming out of my ankle, no pain, just annoying sound. But, I haven't used them in almost a year, I've run lots of 5Ks, 10Ks, and a half-marathon since I stopped using them, so it shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully after my appointment on Tuesday I'll be done with DODMERB :shake:

I hate incidental findings..

Well, first things first, a few hours before my appointment I checked the DoDMERB website and my remedial had disappeared, no idea how that happened.

So, I went to the appointment just in case, and the podiatrist had no idea why my ankle was making a popping sound, found nothing wrong in ankle x-rays. Took foot x-rays and he said it looked like two of the bones in my foot which normally seperate look like they could be connected still, but he couldn't be positive from the x-rays. And now I have to set up a CT scan and a follow-up appointment. He told me because of my level of activity and I have no restrictions he'd write a good letter regardless of if those bones were connected.

So my new question: I'm not exactly sure what the bones are or the name of them being still connected, but do you think it's another disqualifying condition, and what do you think the odds of a waiver for that are?

Well the thing that got you the additional evaluation is the fact that you wore custom orthotics for a while. If you are not currently wearing them, have a high level of activity with out any discomfort and a military podiatrist states that he/she can find no problems and clears you for military duty then there should be no problems.

FINALLY!!

It's finally over  It took me 10 months and 11 days from the date of my exam, but I'm finally medically qualified for USMA. Now I just have to make sure I stay healthy, and finish all my paperwork.

RetNavyHM, THANK YOU!! I can't stress that enough, I really appreciate your input and advice. If it weren't for you I probably would have just given up a long time ago.

Congratulations!! I'm glad I could help, but just remember that you did all the work, so the majority of the credit goes to you! Just remember everything you went through during those difficult days at beast all that you have gone through to get there. It'll make what you go through seem like small potatoes! Enjoy and good luck!

I came across this thread while doing a search.

It is so good, I just had to reply, in order to bring it back up.

This thread should be required reading for anyone going through the SA nomination/appointment process.

A great study in perseverance!

Tim
