I have lost my NROTC scholarship. I was told yesterday morning in the PRB because of academic probation and an honor violation (I panicked because I was failing) and they asked about my mental health since I talked about how hard COVID/remote learning was in my opening statement.
After I start over and enroll at the community college to get my grades up and learn coping skills, time management skills ect. and apply to a different college may I reapply at a new school for my Junior and Senior years for NROTC? For ROTC? For The Air Force? Or once you are kicked out of NROTC is it for life?
Thanks

When you were dropped from NROTC, you should have received a DD785, this form is a record of disenrollment from any officer training program. On this form, you are ranked any number from 1-5 with 5 being highlighted recommended or 1 Definitely not recommended. Whatever you have on this form will probably determine whether or not you can participate in anymore officer training programs. I would say anything 3 and below is unlikely to get you in. For now, focus on getting yourself back up, focus on school, your health, etc, then you can talk Military.

Honestly, I would say if you were dropped from NROTC for grades, it is unlikely you would be able to do NROTC again HOWEVER, you should be eligible for OCS programs for all the branches. I know someone who was dropped from NROTC in college for DUI, he completed college with good grades and did volunteered, he was able to get a slot to Navy OCS. He is now in Flight School. Keep your head up, don't let this discourage you. S*** happens, move forward.

And don’t let this forever define who you are. Lean from this, grow and become a better person. We all make mistakes, mess up, bad choices, etc. The important thing is to accept responsibility and use it to make you better.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. People make mistakes, but it is how they react to them is what determines the person. You already having a plan, and not giving up on your goal of serving tells me that you will do just fine. Best of luck. And please come back and share with us when you achieve your goal. This Board loves a great comeback story.

I think to start NROTC as a transfer student you must have less than 30 credit hours. So even despite your history, that could be an obstacle.

I assume by "an honor violation," you mean that you got caught cheating on some type of assignment/test?

For ROTC due to the credit, it wouldn't be possible.

I agree with the above statement, to some degree; I have also heard of someone dropping out of NROTC for grades; they got into OCS with a letter of rec from unit XO. However... your honor violation will be an obstacle. IMO, that significantly brings down your odds

Op, from here on in I recommend you learn and use the phrase “it just wasn’t a good fit.“

And that’s it, if anyone asks what happened and digs for dirt, repeat the phrase above. If you must, throwin “ we tried. It just wasn’t a good fit. “.
Overall, I would look for a fresh start that could include a path to OCS or PLC if you’re a marine. Or a different branch? Do you have multiple strikes From your PR B with the Navy ROTC program. Good for you for getting your academic and coping skills in order and regrouping. Good for you for thinking about your future. But you asked for some feedback, and those are a few thoughts I can share. Good luck to you

Sorry for the PRB outcome. Some good advice about moving forward has already been given. However, not sure if you are aware that you have 5 days to file an appeal of that decision. I also don't know whether this was after your first year or more. If it is not after your first year, you face significant monetary recoupment, and for that reason it may be in your interests to consult with an experienced military attorney. Just my two cents. Also not sure whether you reviewed your file before the PRB, as there may have been other concerns listed in it upon which they based their recommendation. Either way, best of luck to you moving forward, it was certainly a hard lesson to learn. It will only make you better and I wish you the best. If you are truly motivated to serve or be an officer, it is just a detour.
