Required Actions: Complete Medical Qualification Exam??

My son's application portal still has "Complete Medical Qualification Exam" under Required Actions. We are both a little surprised at this - becasue he completed the DODMERB process well over a month ago. When does this status change?

A potentially important detail - my son did DQ with DODMERB - childhood asthma - we are guardedly optimistic about getting a waiver.

Anyway - when is this Required Action supposed to drop? Maybe it isn't supposed drop until he has been medically cleared - after the Waiver Board??

Part of the reason we ask anxious about it is that my son hasn't heard anything from his BGO. We were wondering if that is because of this "Required Action".

Any insight would be appreciated.

DODMERB's website showed my son was qualified mid Aug. It did not show up in his portal until 5 weeks later. I understand you being anxious, but try not to lose sleep over the things you cannot control.

also log into DodMERB site to make sure there isnt any open items they are waiting on from you/ we got notified by email that more info was needed even though the DoDMETS site says "case closed". its not closed, so its confusing and the are awaiting action from us. our USNA portal says the same as yours.

This was DS’s experience, as well. Seems to be a 4 or 5 week gap between DoDMERB posting and the Academy portal status.

My DS has the same status of "Required Action - Complete Medical Qualification Exam" but for a different DQ. We were invited to Candidate Visit Weekend and was told that because he is highly qualified USNA invited him to attend the weekend. However, until his file is in front of the board (which is in two weeks) and accepted, USNA will not request for a waiver. The process can be very expensive so only waiver request will be initiated for accepted candidates.

I will echo the same ... My DS completed the DoDMERB 2 months ago. On Oct 10th, DoDMERB site reflected "Qualified" for all three Academies (USMA, USNA & USAFA).
USMA portal was updated within a week, USAFA portal was updated within 10 days, but USNA's still not updated after 20 days.

rholt - if your DS was DQ'd, then the USNA portal will continue to show "Complete Medical Qualification Exam" until a waiver is initiated/granted. You don't need to do anything.

More important is to monitor the DODMERB status. If you are DQ, it will say "Pending Waiver Submission" which means that USNA has all the medical info, and they have not yet initiated the waiver process.
They will only initiate the waiver review for candidates that they are very likely to offer an appointment to. So, you may be waiting for a while before anything changes. The first thing you will see might be a request from DODMERB for additional info, and the status will change to Pending Remedial, or Pending Waiver Review , which means that USNA is reviewing and needs more info to decide on waiver. You may also just get a letter from DODMERB stating that waiver has been granted (that was my DS experience).

While you are waiting, you might want to research all the previous threads about Asthma DQ, and proactive things you could consider doing to bolster chances of getting the waiver (MCCT testing etc, etc).

Again, none of that will matter unless and until USNA initiates the waiver review

Best of Luck!

Almost the same story for us. My DD completed DODMERB in mid September. No updates on USNA portal even after 40 days. USAFA and USMA updated within a couple of days.

A6E Dad. Thanks for the input. We are currently consulting with Dr. Merchant on the best way to proactively address the asthma DQ. Based on these discussions - we have identified a DODMERB knowledgeable pulmonologist and have made an appointment for some testing. Fingers crossed.

What are you expecting from the BGO? Once the BGO does the official BGO interview, they have nor formal role. The DODMERB issue should be in parallel with the BGO interview in any case as the two are separate tracks.

OldRetSWO - It isn't that we are expecting anything from the BGO. The concern was that the BGO won't reach out to set up the interview until the application status is 100% complete.

That is a problem. First of all, being complete on Medical has nothing at all to do with the BGO and/or their interview. Second, waiting until 100% goes against the guidance from admissions. Generally, most AC's want interviews scheduled when the completion percentage gets above 38%, personally, I usually go for 50% which is also when DODMERB starts their piece. Since admissions wants to be able to go to the board when the record is at 100%, it is a big problem to wait for 100% before even starting to schedule the interview.

Hi VP2000, is there any luck yet with your DD's DoDMERB update on USNA?
Just curious, if you contacted anyone to get it fixed? My DS's has not been updated yet after almost a month.

No updates on her portal. DD contacted her admissions counselor but did not receive any reply.

I was told by the Naval Academy that it takes a while to update. I completed my DODMERB two months ago and I am qualified. I do not believe that are connected electronically to DODMERB. It is all by snail mail. I try to keep in touch with my admission officer for updates.
