I talked to a recruiter and he said if I enlist in the reserves in high school it will greatly help me get into West Point. He said I would end up not having to go to basic after hs bc West Point overrides the reserve service. Can this actually help me or is it bs?

Recruiters have one job, recruit people. Some of them will say anything to make their quota. Enlisting will not greatly or moderately increase your chance of an appointment. If you were to enlist, be prepared to fulfill the terms of the contract you sign, and not expect the outcome to be what is verbally promised or suggested.
If you desire to attend West Point, enlisting is not your best route.
There is no easy way to receiving an appointment to an SA…..

The only way enlisting might help is if you do the split training option and attend basic between your junior and senior year of high school. If you search for “split training” I’m sure threads will come up on what this entails. I have met a number of Cadets who went this route. Of course, you don’t meet the ones who tried it and did not get an appointment.
But, if you do this there is no guarantee. If accepted to a SA your enlistment contract is voided by your appointment. If not, you would still have to attend AIT after graduating from HS and serve with a Reserve or National Guard unit. This is not necessarily a bad thing as many states have great educational benefits for members of the National Guard.

If WP is your goal, then you may be better served talking to a Field Force rep about WP. A recruiter isn't likely to be as well versed about WP as a Field Force rep.
