Hello everyone,

I take accelerated courses at my hs. So freshman year I obtained a C in my math class (geometry/trigonometry honors). My counselor wants me to retake it because it will hopefully be the only C on my transcript. What are some thoughts about this? Is it worth it? Will the naval academy look down upon this? Thanks:)

I recently asked a similar question except about chemistry as it was the only C I have on my transcript. The consensus was that if you are in a pretty good place in academics, ECAs, leadership roles, community service etc to just move on from it and take a harder class. I would suggest taking AP calc if it's offered at your school I know SAs look highly on students that take that course. Best of luck as I'm also looking forward to USNA '22!

A "C" in a freshman year course isn't a huge deal if your subsequent math grades are high Bs and/or As. A "C" as a junior or senior could be more problematic -- but it's an individualized determination based on overall academic situation (courses taken, grades, quality of h.s., trend in grades, etc.) as well as overall record as the above poster described.

Thanks for the response. So a C as a freshman or sophomore is not the end of the world? Also if I were to retake a course, would the service academies look in favor of it?
