I just called my admissions counselor at USAFA and asked him a few questions, one of which was whether or not the board had reviewed my application yet. He said that it was reviewed and that it is now up for a second time at a second panel. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there some type of deference process where some applicants are set aside for a second review? Thanks.

Hi!

Okay, the process...it's actually pretty simple.

The review board will meet and there is a HUGE pile of records. So they'll take "X" number...and every member of the board will review and comment and then a determination is made.

In the early boards, the standards are VERY VERY high...and most folks are NOT selected. Those records NOT selected are returned to the "qualified" pool of candidates.

And then on day "Y" the board meets...and takes those that have been reviewed once, as well as those they're reviewing for the first time...and they go through the same process.

Some folks' records will go forward MANY times...and eventually they are selected, or not.

So the fact that you're going before the board a second time...that's nothing unusual. Don't worry about it; and hey, there's nothing you can do about it anyway, right?

So keep after your goal, keep the faith, and (and I KNOW this is hard)...

Be patient. :thumb:

second board

My son's advisor said his file was with the second board. His advisor told us that the second board looks for any points overlooked by the first board and add them. We do know that someone from Air Force called the school inquiring about all activities he may or may not been involved in. Hope that helps! To wait is agonizing for nominee and family!

Thank you Steve and Sunshine92. The wait is DEFINITELY agonizing! But in the end, it will all be worthwhile - appointment or not. I am so grateful for what have learned during the application process thus far, and I am no where near throwing in the towel; if it takes me 4 more years to get into the Academy, let it be!
