Before the topic of football which is near and dear to my heart overtakes the board, let us all celebrate the newest USMA Rhodes Scholar - Daine Van de Wall.

Just for people keeping track of data:

USMA 94 scholars
USNA 48 scholars
USAFA 41 scholars

Go Army! [emoji169]🖤

Question: so when the cadet goes for his higher studies ( @ Oxford), is that time counting as AD time?

It counts as TIS and they're paid as LTs while studying, but they have an ADSO for going so it washes out that the Army still gets the length of your commitment from you on active duty as if you hadn't gone to study immediately after USMA.

AND you have the additional time count toward retirement and pay step increases.

Thank you all. If I understand it correctly,

- AD starts after the grad study is done
- LT pay scale while studying
- TIS, TIG accumulates
- the grad study time is counted towards retirement time.

So is it fair to say that once grad study is done, they are in line to be promoted for 1st LT ( assuming 2 years for grad study)?

They are on Active Duty while in school. The only thing that changes is the date of their End of obligated service compared to their peers.

And once again, AND you have the additional time count toward retirement and pay step increases.

**source??
Particularly impressive for Air Force on the face of it... the RS is over a hundred years old... USAFA only around for little over half of that.

The Rhodes Scholar was established in 1902.
AFA 65 years since 1954 - 41 scholars
USNA 117 years since 1902 - 48 scholars
USMA 117 years since 1902 - 94 scholars

I can absolutely say GO ARMY!

It is awesome for Army.

Soon we must get back to the Army Navy football history stats.
