Ive googled and searched here and cannot find anything.

Is this ring tap event a new or old tradition? I found a couple really good pics of my son and was wanting to know the story before sharing. It looks like a pretty big deal to the cadets, at least by the looks on their faces in the photos!

    Thanks!

I am not familiar with this event. Do you mind describing it?

The 2020 class took turns running up to their newly revealed crest and tapped it with their new rings. It looked like a big deal to them

I saw this on the USAFA website today...it seems that, somewhere in the past, the "new senior class" runs to the crest on the chapel wall and "touches" it with their ring hand.

Not sure when that started; trust me, that wasn't done when I was a firstie.

Of course, as my cadets like to remind me daily: "Uh...how'd you get to class, dodging all the dino's on the terrazzo?"

Ah, okay. Yes, that has been a thing for at least 6 years and probably more, but I've never known it to have an official name.

I wish we would have thought of that - I like it and hope it continues.

I hoped fellow grads would. You are the first to comment on it. Thank you.

I get the 7258 reference (altitude above sea level of the cadet area) . . .

. . . perhaps I'm too old to get the rest

2012 Grad...I remember something about visiting our new crest - but it wasn't ring tapping, then again, my USAFA experiences are turning into a blur already...
