My son emailed me this morning that a Senior Cadet, AFROTC contract, killed himself over Thanksgiving break. The entire corps gathered this morning to honor him and start the grieving process.

For you future officers- invest the time in a mental health first aid course. You're going to need it both with your friends but those you're responsible for.

For fellow parents- share this video with your kids - it's geared for men but applies to all friendships.

As a mom, I worry. But focusing on helping my cadet every way he asks me to and communicating openly and honestly... I rest a little easier.

How heartbreaking. Prayers for his family, friends and fellow cadets. These young kids are under great pressure. I think many times they don't seek help fearing it will prevent them from serving.

I hope that folks realize that it's ok to reach out. If not to a professional out of fear of reprocussions speak with friends or even clergy.
