Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to SAF and I'm taking this time to scroll through the USAFA threads as well as the FAQs on their website. I was able to see USAFA's campus in person last year, and I've been extremely interested in applying. The only problem is I don't know where exactly to start. I've been looking over the acronym list and I have already applied for the Future Falcons Program. I'm involved in quite a few leadership positions in school and I have taken a fair share of honors/AP classes. I have some time before I am able to apply for Summer Seminar. In the meantime, do any of you happen to have any advice regarding the beginning of the application process, how to find out who my ALO is, when to contact my ALO, who to get in touch with, etc? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

This forum is an incredible source of information, just use the search feature and type almost anything you are wondering about. Trust me it has already been answered. I spent the first few months of my process just reading almost everything on this forum and there is little that I still have questions about.

Welcome!

You won't start your official application until March of your junior year. The only thing that you can do right now is get good grades, continue serving your community, and look for leadership opportunities. As for advice, I only have 2 specific things:

1. Take training for the CFA seriously. I am applying to the c/o 2025 and I have played sports my whole life. I did not think the CFA would be a big deal and I am paying for it now.

2. When you apply for summer seminar it will give you the option to use the SS application as your pre candidate questionnaire. I would suggest that you put a lot of time and effort into your SS application and plan on using it as your PCQ. It makes the process less stressful and you will be in the early pool of candidates from the very beginning.

Thank you so much, I’ll make sure to check it periodically! :)

I’ll make sure to do that when the time comes, thank you for the advice! I wish you the best of luck with the CFA!

A few things I'll add to this pretty good list is don't get discouraged if you don't get into SS. I remember seeing some of my friends get accepted and I never heard back. Definitely hit hard, but I've heard SS is for people who are more-or-less on the fence. I was gun-ho about coming to the academy, hence why I don't think I got it. I would also recommend challenging yourself in HS. Don't focus solely on your GPA because the academy takes your transcript and adjusts it to give what they believe your GPA should be. Take courses that you might not do stellar in, especially STEM, so they see that you try and want to grow. I can't remember when I got my ALO, but I would recommend getting in contact with them ASAP. My ALO wasn't the greatest, but don't let that deter you. I talked with my ALO once on the phone, and then never heard from him again. I think the academy recommends building a good relationship with them, which I agree. (Little tip, if you're ALO is just not responding, just reach out to your counselor. Ask them the questions and they typically answer them in the same time.) Good luck applying, and don't let them tell you no!
