went to AIM Summer 2008, please give a shout.

My son was in the second session this summer. His nickname there was Willy Wonka.

We're anxiously waiting also...

My sons attended AIM and truly loved everything about the academy! It was such a great experience for them. Anyway, the DoDmerb website shows that the application status changed for one son, but nothing on the other. Needless to say we are worried that it may mean some"one" may be very disappointed or both. Did anyone receive any word yet? I suppose we will all know within the next few weeks.

I think I remember your son, I attended the second session too! What company was he in? I remember one of the cadre announcing him as Willy Wonka at the graduation.

Willy Wonka was in Echo company.

Mom with two sons - are they twins? Fraternal or identical? What is their second choice after USCGA?

Identical twins

Sorry, I decided to stop "lurking" on the sites for a while. Anyway, twins makes a difficult process somewhat more complicated, if you can imagine! I think that they will eventually choose wherever they both get in. Just my opinion, of course, because they are both very determined to make up their own minds, independent of their twin. I'm hoping for the best--it will be tough to break up the "team" after so many years together! Good Luck to all....we should find out soon.

i went to AIM 08 but i was in sesion one GOLF company

I was there too

I was in your son's company. and i was at his table wen he got that nickname haha. Our cadre had to remind us of military bareing.

We've had tons of laughs from the nickname and all the stories...

that he told us from AIM.

By the way, for some reason, it is going straight, so with each trim the complete Wonka look diminishes.

Nevertheless, he remembers the Wonkinator speech!

Our son was in Hotel Company 1st session of AIM in 2008. We met some parents from Illinois who had just dropped their other kid off at Merchant Marine Academy--are you guys lurking here also, your son was at USCGA AIM first session. We are still waiting on any word from USCGA, our son did get a "guaranteed offer of appointment" from USNA and we are waiting on a nomination to complete that...here's hoping for any Academy at this point--nervous!

Our son is in similar position, but

apparently has the nod for USCGA as we speak. He is excited, obviously! THE Letters are in the mail...Good Luck to all of you! Exciting times, indeed.

Do you mean your son has a USNA LOA and you "know" he has a nod from USCGA with letters in the mail? How cool is that!! Wishing you all the best also!

Bambino, why do you think your son "has the nod" for

USCGA?

Just curious.

Hi MWBluebeard,
He received a call last night informing him of the Appointment. It was a complete surprise to him, as the most recent news was he had an LOA at Navy, but no nomination...He was in a funk until the call came. Now he is on cloud nine. I will keep all informed when the Letter arrives.

My Daughter "Joyce" was in Session one, Delta Company.

Really? A phone call? From whom?

If you don't mind me asking.

Does everyone get a call? Seems like people are holding out for letters, not phone calls.

Sometimes a coach will make the call to a recruited athlete.

Most appointments come via the mail.

I'm starting to feel sick.

I'm keeping it between ya'll and myself... not wanting to drive son and family crazy. Well, okay, I'm bothering my IRL friends, too. I am so anxious to get some word.

I know there are many others who are feeling the same way.

Bless all our hearts.

Try to relax. We are all right there with you. Last year my son missed the EA deadline and had to wait until June. I thought, on many occaisions, that we just couldn't do this for another day, but somehow we did. There is a plan for your boy, and worrying will not change it one little bit.

Hang in there, and I hope you get some GREAT news before Christmas. But, if you don't, may it be forthcoming early next Spring.

By the way, my son is doing CC right now and the reapplication process has been tough too. Redid SAT, and all the other stuff too. He won't hear until after the new year due to college grades being needed. Soooo....I feel your pain. Son has, however, gained a LOT of maturity through this whole process, and it has reinforced his desire to attend the academy. (and we got to have him home for another year...this momma liked that part a lot. The kid didn't like that part so much as he is in a hurry to grow up, but he did mature and develop in so many wonderful ways).

Try to enjoy your holidays.

Thank you shellz for the kind encouragement. Isn't it

funny how uptight a mama can get over her cubs? We're just lionesses in skirts, I guess.

Thank you for replying and best wishes to you, and to all who are hanging out here and waiting for the news.

Congratulations on your appointment! Can you share what type of SAT score and other grades your son had along with athletics, etc... Trying to examine their range of picks. Any info you have would be great. Again, Congrats to you all, the news is just fabulous.
