My firstie and his 3 friends were discussing w my plebe. Their take was that hopefully ’26 works smarter and not harder. They thought many may take a more passive role as a result of recovery process. Maybe it will lead to a more organized climb with an executed plan? We shall see…As a parent, my concern is that the '26 Herndon climb is 16 hours after sea trials (bruises, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, cuts, scrapes). Previous climbs were 6 days after trials which gave the plebes time to recover. I understand the concept of being hardcore and let's not go there. I'm spec ops for 25 years out of 30. I just don't want to see my DS get injured which will surely upsets DW.
And yes, the world remembers till time immemorial.
So true! My firstie was strongly in camp Never Herndon when ‘23s Reform Herndon was announced. Ultimately he participated in the active scrum for an hour at the base and was both happy he participated and his class conquered! Prevailing Monday morning QB opinion was that USNA leadership made the right call by slowly righting all of the covid lost opportunities.Plebes can think of it as good training for the many things in life they will find himself doing that they are less then enthused about.
They can choose to re-frame this as not being ‘mandatory fun,” climbing a greased monument in some traditional rite of passage, but a way for then to not think about themselves and support and cheer on classmates after a challenging year, and be part of the larger team that gets it done.
We are here in Nap Town the Yard is quiet. Plebes having an early dinner and early to bed. 0230 muster is brutal! But we did have a nice weekend with him home. Looking forward to driving over Wednesday for Herndon. Should be perfect weather for it! Our shirts didn't get shipped until late, so have to pick them up from the family that organized the order. No biggie for us since we'll be there.
Sea Trials tonight!!
