Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘27 🎢

Appreciate the update. A lot of it was a blue then. March by sections to class, to meals, to PT, to drill practice, to the indoor range.
First the shock - "what have I gotten myself into?", then the blur. Prob a survival coping mechanism. ;)

I am so sorry your plebe , you and your family are going through this . I am sending so many good vibes and will be praying for your plebe. He sounds like a remarkable kid if he is maintaining a positive attitude plus supporting his fellow mids even with all he is going through .
Thank you! I have come to the conclusion that pretty much every kid there is remarkable!!!

Hoping and praying that this is not serious. I think it is very good that whatever it was, it was caught, will be followed up upon by the doctors, and managed.
Thank you! Yes, he said they take cardio issues very seriously and even though he has had another EKG by a cardiologist that was normal they are still requiring an ultrasound and that he wear a monitor to be sure!

I'm so sorry! We are praying for your son. If there is anything else you need, even just another plebe mom to talk to, please message me and we can talk. We're all here for you and waiting for good news and complete healing for your son.
Thank you, your prayers are greatly appreciated! His letter yesterday said that he has had another EKG by a cardiologist that was normal (YAY) but they are still requiring an ultrasound and for him to wear a monitor just to be sure. He sees the cardiologist again on Monday. They are taking very good care of him. He has been in recent photos smiling and participating in some things, so that is good to see.

Precisely. The shock + blur combo.

I was a complete idiot about reporting. My orders said to report to the quarterdeck between 1300-1700 at (must have been NIMITZ?). I had an early flight from Jacksonville, FL to Providence, found something to eat at PVD and took a taxi. I reported in promptly at 1300, figuring I would put my stuff in my room, wander around a bit, get acclimated. The people at the quarterdeck were very nice, stamped my orders, collected paperwork, had me sign something and kindly escorted me to a swinging door. I went through the doors. The blur began. The people in the other side of the door were not nice. It was me and 2 others for the first 2 hours. The prior enlisted? Skidded in at 1645, of course, including my roommate, a treasure trove of survival tips and pro savvy.

DD was given the advice (numerous times in the last 3 months): do not stand out. do not be at the front and do not bring up the rear. stay in the middle. So, her report time was 1000 - 1030. She waited til 1015 to walk in, right in the middle. Yelling did start once inside the building.

It seems to be the Wild, Wild West of forum posting of late. Free-range posting.

I never know what’s what these day 😆. Things will come into proper focus soon, I suspect. As per usual.

It’s the heat. I am claiming Thermo-Cooked Brain Syndrome. 🥵🤯
FR. We are hitting 100 again today, dew points almost 80. Unprecedented. It’s AWFUL. I probably could cook bacon on the deck.

True story: my kids ran track. At one National meet, the real temp was 113. Maybe 140 on the track? Something unbelievable, amplified bc it’s a black track….down in a ‘bowl’ (NO AIR movement at all). The bottoms of my athletes tennis shoes literally melted during warm ups.

Daughter did 44's to Newport one year. They got quarters at OCS. Her comment was "Holy Crap these are their rooms". It wasn't Mother B.:D For some parts of the country they always say "but it is a dry heat". The same can be said of HELL👿

DD and I were in Virginia yesterday: hot and humid.

We’re in Georgia today: HOT AND HUMID!

Needed a flat tire fixed this morning, so we walked 8 minutes to grab breakfast at a diner. Glad it wasn’t 10 minutes. 🥵 (For the record, DD did order bacon.)

It’s probably flat from the hot pavement.

DH and I had barbecue brisket sandwiches from Buc-ees this week. Should you be looking to try out something different....those sandwiches were good...maybe even better than some of the grub we had at various locations on the way to the Academy.

For the price point, size and pretty decent quality they are a great sandwich. If you can get a fresh one made in front of you, they are even better.

Off topic again: Galway Girl. Good songs. Black Hair and Blue Eyes on Grafton Street. Daughter was an Irish Dancer for years and actually danced with the Pipes and Drums a few times (Alas Scottish but at least Celt} at the Academy. How is that for off the rails?

Sadly, according to a sponsor daughter in the current dance group with Pipes & Drums, it will go dormant this fall. Coach moved away, was coaching by zoom from several states away but decided to resign. No luck in finding a new coach. It’s a great ECA; they get to do fun things.

Knowing what those dancers go through from an early age I don't think they need a coach just an officer rep to make it an officialy sanctioned (club)? Daughter played Field Hockey for Navy club team for four years and they did it all themselves with only an attached officer as "coach". If you can do a scottish sword dance at eighteen you don't need a coach just a lot of bandaids.;)
