Sort of surprised that the USNA Music Dept wouldn't take it up since Pipes and Drums have a pretty significant ceremonial presence at events like NMF, Parades, and March Ons.

Wow, didn't know that they had such an ECA. My DD wouldn't have participated but it's something that I would have enjoyed seeing.

The Nimitz is a traffic hell. But steeped in history.
 
Hi everyone, the pictures of Plebe Summer are a blessing, but some details made me curious…

1) why some plebes have two or more name tags
2) why some plebes wear a bright yellow belt (similar to safety patrol)
3) why some Company flags have ribbons (blue Written pistol, or red with initials that I have no idea..)

just some curiosities…
hope all parents of Plebes are doing well, 13 days to see them again.

Multiple name tags are usually because they forgot a name tag at some point.

Not sure on the belts.

The additional ribbons on the flag are streamers they won for things like a highest score on a parade. They issue points and a Color Company is assigned at the end of Plebe Summer.
 
Belt for road guards? When a formation was aproaching an intersection the command was road guards out to halt traffic while the formation crossed. Just a guess.

I read somewhere that at USAFA the bright colored belt is for injured kids, may be?
 
I had read a post here and now I can’t find it about sleeping bags for their racks ? That it’s easier than having to make up their bed (rack) every morning . I think someone had recommended a certain brand . Any thoughts about this ? Are they even allowed to have an extra pillow or blanket during plebe year ?
 
They will still tear up/overturn racks regardless of how you sleep in it.

IIRC, they sometimes have to bring their sheets out to the hall before running back in to make them again.

Aren't rack races fun!!??

They are provided what they need. If they want more or different they will ask.

Once ac year begins, leave all this to your plebe. They will figure out the QOL hacks from others, and get it themselves or let you know what they want you to bring/send. All part of them being young adults now. You are allowed to step back, grin widely and take pleasure in the fact you raised a smart kid who will figure all this out and no longer requires this kind of parental thinking on their behalf. You’re allowed to consult as needed now, and not have to take on project manager roles!
 
I’ve always liked this historical and inspiring clip of President Kennedy at USNA. It is sixty years ago to this day that he addressed plebes in T-Court in 1963. What he said back then is applicable to the plebes that took the oath just a few weeks ago. Parents, have a great time with your plebe during PPW. I know you'll be proud.


 
I received a letter from @Dragomir and he said to tell y’all hello. And he is doing well! Qualified on the range, enjoys the endurance course the most, and has joined crew. Loved his 1st set detailers. And told me it was OK to share all that, here.
