Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘28 🎢

Kid said your kids had it easy for Hello-O morning. His company just had some ground fighting and called it a day.

"Back in my day, there was yelling, bear crawls, etc. etc.," per him. Everyone's Plebe summer was the last real one. ;)

AC year starts tomorrow! Kids will be doing chow calls and chopping to get out of Mother B as fast as possible.
My Kid said the last real Hell-O night occurred at end of PS for C/o '25.....:)

I have pictures of Plebe with roommates and other plebes in the tunnels breaking out one night on Ho Chi Minh Trail, but they are still classified. I think they shut down the old tunnels to the 7- eleven?
Yeah, could have been a result of that whole mail-room drug ring that someone was running through that exit ...................

I came away from the Corps with the ability to fall asleep on concrete without a pillow. It is my superpower.
Sitting straight up in a CH-46 in August heat in Spain catching rides from Rota to Torrejon AB to go into Madrid. Web seating. Hot metal. Fuel smell. Sweaty hot people smell. Open door “AC!” Once I mastered that, I was good to go anywhere.

It is questionable if a Mattress Topper may or may not help them sleep since they could probably sleep on a stone wall. From my understanding it does however prevent the morning remaking of hospital corners and perfectly made military rack (only requiring a minor touch up) when seconds count.
Lots of MIDN had mattress toppers. Bancroft racks weren't bad, but they weren't the best. Sleeping on top of made racks with a blanket was what everyone did regardless of if the mattress toppers were used. The only times we would make racks as upperclass was the beginning of the Ac Year, the beginning of summer trainings in Bancroft, and right before the Alpha since you had to hit precise measurements for how much of the white sheets were showing and how wide the fold was. The only time I actually slept in the sheets was the last day I was going to be in Bancroft since we were going to have to strip our racks anyway.

mattress toppers - my son wants one, but our older sponsor made suggested he make sure he has permission from his company first.

I know it’s over now, but on the subject of reform - do not go on the yard unless you have to. I had to return our sponsor with all of their stuff by the time I found a place close enough to carry things to the door and got back to my car. I had gotten blocked and didn’t get the move for an hour!

I love hearing parents (who did not experience any of it firsthand) argue or otherwise represent about Plebe Summer, Hello Night, etc.
To me its like a bunch of single guys who have never been near a delivery room spouting about who had the worst labor pains.

First, to set the record straight, the last Plebe Summer was c/o '88, because '85 gave it to them !

We had to strip and remake racks when laundry went out each week, so we slept in the sheets the night before. It was called "Hotel Night."

Plebe texted that he validated swimming today and made his first teeth cleaning appointment.

I wasn't overly surprised about the swimming...he talked about wanting that free block over PPW. The teeth cleaning...that was a pleasant surprise. He was due for a cleaning near the end of the school year and time slipped away from me and the earliest I could get him in by the time I called was after I-Day.

It can take months to get into the dentist group, so good on him for getting the jump on it!

My kid popped a wire in his braces that the Academy put on, and it took him all summer to get in and the repair was only done this week! I almost sent him to our other kid's old ortho to have her fix it when he was home on leave.

Had a mandatory Dental while at Biloxi. During the exam and while in the chair the Dentist and Dental Tech were reviewing an office furniture catalogue. The Dentist was a short timer and planning his future.

Even better: A few years later on the way to remote Colonel Dentist said that one molar someday might give me problems. Who argues with a Colonel when you are in his chair. Had to break it and dig to take it out. Off to site still numb from local. Local wears off. Med at site recommends Demerol which he had and a hole punch for Scotch on my ration card. I did survive.

Well, visit to the dentist went smoothly. He said he barely sat down in the waiting room and they were calling him back.

(This is not the SOP at our local dentist, who twin brother had a cleaning appointment with today, ironically!)

Plebe also said it was the most detailed cleaning he's ever had. I'm not sure if this says more about our local dentist than it does about the brigade dentist.🤨

When I told all this to DH the first thing he said was..."I wonder who he's trying to look good for?" That didn't even cross my mind, but he's probably right.

DD is in color company and they have had pep every morning. She was shocked to hear some other companies had only had one workout. I suppose it varies.
