Congrats to all the kids (and parents) who are about to start their full USNA journey as the Class of '29!

I'm jumping the gun and starting this one a day before I-Day, but I thought it was fitting to get going with people traveling and the Fleet/Corps and NAPSters reporting today.

This is your thread to commiserate and share any and everything relevant to your kiddos and their experiences. (And a place to lament the loss of your little kid as they become independent adults).

They've earned this, and it is their journey. You'll soon realize you are just along for the ride. So, strap in, please keep your arms and legs within the ride enclosure, and hold on tight!!

Got tickets to an early premiere of F1 movie for plebe to be as it officially comes out after I Day....she loved it and was great to do something as a family non Navy Prep. Highly recommend just do something fun tonight...enjoy the ride!!!
My crew is at the movies now, watching “how to train your dragon” haha. Something light hearted and non-military. I am enjoying some quiet time before the big day tomorrow!

Oh, and you guys all get a new Dant as he had the CoC ceremony this week (change of command). Kid was a bit bummed as he really liked the departing one and appreciated his insight and encouragement while the dude was trying to (unsuccessfully) pursue the S.E.A.L. route.

I'd say air soup will definitely be on the menu. It's going to be (and has been) pretty brutal for June, here. Wife even made me opt out of running at lunch today - although I did yesterday. :P

Anyone seen anyone wearing a bacon 🥓 pin? The unofficial, official symbol of the SAF??

how is it feel ? when you ready ? Don’t cry in front of your son , don’t do this , don’t do that , don’t show emotion in front of your son ….. all of those advice from friends, co workers neighbors….. is out of the door seen last few days for me , my mind go 1000 miles , I know DS will be safe , I know he exciting but nervous, but I can’t help not cry that the fact I’m letting my son and only child to go far away from my arms , my home but not 1 second I’m regret that I supporting his decision want to do something big and want to do the best he can be .
TODAY IS I DAY
Good luck and have fun enjoy every moment of plebe summer as 6 weeks will be fast and memory will be build for lifetime. Send all love and hugs to all of class 2029 parents.

My son really wants to go to F1 movie but I would like him to have few hours of sleep knowing IDay will be long and tired for him . Hopefully F1 movie still in theaters on PPW something that he can look forward to enjoy .

@MID2029MM - great job supporting your DS. He may be your only child, but he is also now a young man and held to the standard of responsible adult. He is making good decisions or he would not be in this class.

I don't say that to be callous or insensitive, but rather to highlight that you have done a great job parenting. You have done quite a few things right to get him in position to launch. That is no small feat. Try to take a moment today to step back and just marvel at the surroundings and the opportunities

Some of your friends with kids going the regular college route are not going to understand. On that path, the separation is gradual - typically 4-5 years; some kids never separate even after a degree.

USNA (or any service academy) has a clean bandaid rip, straight forward approach to adulthood. USNAs approach is timeless, tested, improves every year and candidly is unmatched.

In short, your DS is in the top institution in the world to grow as a leader. USNA will turn potential into production. The degree is almost icing.

I know these are words and your emotion is real. You have a great support group on the SAF. Reach out. The time between today and the first phone call will be tough

Try to enjoy the show/journey.

Very respectfully
W
