Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

Talk about rides!!! The Army-Navy game was a shared ride for everyone. Just read that long snapper on the uncalled “fake punt” was plebe from AZ! Nerves maybe? It was the play that made the game. Midn 1/C Faggot who took the surprise snap and made the play looked like it was planned. Those two and the team will have a story for the ages. What a game. What teamwork!

From the Annapolis Gazette:
Remarkably, Fagot admitted afterward he had no idea a fake punt was coming and he would be required to make a play. Apparently, freshman long snapper Ethan Nguyen was the only one in on the fake.
“No one asked for it. The snapper, he just snapped it to me. I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t know it was coming, honestly,” Fagot told CBS sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl after the game.
“So honestly, I attribute that to God. I just reacted and I played football. I don’t know what else to say.”
Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo, who was in tears after the game, confirmed the fake punt was not called by the coaching staff. He later learned that Nguyen thought Fagot had checked into the fake, but he had not done so.

I am looking forward to our AZ Military Academy Ball, maybe I can shake the hand of the long snapper? A story for the ages, a game for the ages. Still grinning.

Sooooo....Finals week and surprise, surprise (you should hear Gomers voice in your head), nasty cold and COVID are making their way through brigade. Direct source says if COVID positive then you will placed in ISO or SIQ for 10 days effectively cancelling leave. Thus MIDNs are resitant to go to BMU.

Anyone else hearing this? I hope this a deckplate rumor. I can see MIDNs being restricted from air travel for leave but wholesale leave cancelled? I realize this is Navy and Navy will do what the Navy will do.
Can confirm. Yes there is a lot of illness going around. Some, the typical ‘run down, time of year’ stuff that happens every year. Idk about Covid bc I’ve also heard that many aren’t going bc off fear of cancelled leave. Could be influenza, head cold. Covid. Strep….who knows.

We are in the new world of living with Covid, as we do the flu, etc. imo. 4 and 5 more days for my guys! They are pushing fluids, vitamins C and D and sleeping as much of possible. Preventative care.

JUST GET HOME ♥️♥️

...
3 more days and 3 more exams for our MIDN and then the trip back home ( finally!).
...

JUST GET HOME ♥️♥️
.
Home for the Holidays Segway moment

Merle and Doc Watson ... Southbound

Merle ... son of Doc Watson ... arguably the best flat picker that ever lived ... preceded his father in death (1985) at age 36.

Imagine for moment, calling your son or daughter "The Late" [Merle Watson]

I can’t wait to see our daughter home for the Holidays.

Southbound ... let's get out of this Naptown and go home ... for a while.

Yes confirmed with DS that if positive COVID then 10 days min quarantine. Also if you go to BMU the first thing they will do is put you in ISO for 3 days thus missing exams that have to be made up. I gave same advice about fluids, Vit C, and sleep. Apparently they all looking out for each other and exchanging supplements/OTC as needed.

And where did your DS get his info? My mid’s roommate tested positive for Covid and all three were sent to ISO - 6 in a room with only cots. Pretty poor conditions to study for exams. Thankfully they were moved back to their room but they still have NO info about leave.

I do not know. I am sure lots of deck plate rumors. I hope your DS stays healthy

Not deckplate rumors. Just got a text from my son - 5 of his friends just got put in iso this morning for the next two weeks and there are a lot (not going to give number) currently in iso, which is full. He is supposed to fly home tonight but not sure he can (no symptoms) but if he does, he is going to stay with one of my other sons until he confirms negative. We are all boosted here.

He should get off campus NOW!

Wouldn’t it be prudent to get everyone to their homes, so that they can be separated and convalesce, assuming there are no high risk family members?

Wife is supposed to drive daughter home on Monday …. I’ll have to text/call her and see what’s up.

If it were a simple matter of driving that would make sense. For most a flight is required and that doesn't make any sense.

Surely you have heard, "we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated".
Such a heart-warming and positive message from POTUS this Holiday Season.

Surely you have heard, "Stay calm. It will go away. You know it — you know it is going away, and it will go away. And we’re going to have a great victory."
Such a pile of self-serving BS from the former POTUS all though out 2020.

Frankly, I would rather hear discouraging truth, rather than dishonest crap, from my CiC.

We made it! DS successfully escaped the Yard yesterday. First semester is in the books. He was able to scoot out early as he finished his exam early and his ride also finished early. It took just under 2 hours from the Yard to departure gate at DCA via New Carrollton Metra stop. He said getting to the Metra stop from the Yard was much quicker than at Thanksgiving.

USO at DCA is still not easily accessible due to construction.

As an aside, he said he spied the Restricted duty schedule and said it was brutal. Good motivation to keep his nose clean. But I do feel for those MIDN that cannot leave the Yard.

The restricted mids made their choices. They will also form some bonds. They will get themselves through this.

One of our sponsor daughters had the proverbial “checkered past” her first two years, with conduct, military aptitude and academic issues (no honor), and often noted her best friends were those she met at restricted muster several times a day. She missed a few holidays. Her main challenge was she came out of a strict, religiously conservative home where no TV, no dating, no entertainment internet, no social media, no socializing except with church members, very very very small religious school where both parents worked, etc., - nothing inherently wrong with that - but she had no social experience, no common sense, no preparation, for the relative (to her) freedom at USNA. The happy ending here is she met a prior enlisted Marine classmate, and his maturity and example helped her turn around to Dean’s list, A’s in performance, and no further demerits. As a firstie, she won a place on Brigade Adjutant Staff by wryly noting in her interviews her deep experience with various USNA systems designed to address midshipman transgressions.

DS made it safely home last night! ❤️
He slept in until 10 am this morning then hit the floor running to the gym after he strapped on his tactical plate vest. Not sure how heavy it is but I gave him my usual speech that he needs to be careful and take extra care of his body because once it’s broke, it will never be the same! Of course he gave me his usual sweet smile and kept running…

DS did voluntarily report final grades that have posted so far and he is finishing strong! 🙌

So proud of all of our DS’s & DD’s! 🤩 Thank you all for continuing to share your stories, experiences, wisdom, etc…
It has helped me tremendously along our Roller Coaster 🎢 Ride…🥰

A good friend who was one of the first women at USNA is very similar to this. I don't think that she got involved with the conduct system due to luck and some experienced companions but she was definitely a babe in the woods in many respects. A couple decades later, she is a respected professional and married to a classmate who is also a friend and teammate of mine as well as brother to one of my classmates/teammates. I won't say more as it might "out" her but I will say one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Picked up DD late Saturday night, had rough couple of days due to exams and not in best of her health. It seems that bunch of her classmates had been tested positive and few of them in ISO at the yard and few just escaped..
