Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

Picked up DD late Saturday night, had rough couple of days due to exams and not in best of her health. It seems that bunch of her classmates had been tested positive and few of them in ISO at the yard and few just escaped..
Hang in there. Hugs to you and mom and your MIDN. Having her home for the first time since IDay is precious. I am happy for you guys.
Lots of fresh honey/ginger/lemon and rest. And mom and dad love. That’s the trick. Merry Christmas to your family.

DS made it safely home last night! ❤️
He slept in until 10 am this morning then hit the floor running to the gym after he strapped on his tactical plate vest. Not sure how heavy it is but I gave him my usual speech that he needs to be careful and take extra care of his body because once it’s broke, it will never be the same! Of course he gave me his usual sweet smile and kept running…

DS did voluntarily report final grades that have posted so far and he is finishing strong! 🙌

So proud of all of our DS’s & DD’s! 🤩 Thank you all for continuing to share your stories, experiences, wisdom, etc…
It has helped me tremendously along our Roller Coaster 🎢 Ride…🥰
Have fun spoiling him. I know my mother did back when. He's happy to be home. Can you beleive it was in July you dropped him off for I-day? No doubt parents will see many changes in their child. The first you have noticed already. He smiled and then confidently and independently did what he was going to do. You'll see more of that, so don't be surprised.

Having a great time with DD and extended family. Now getting ready for a road trip and see her bestie from her company in another state.

DD’s schedule
- sleep and sleep and more sleep
- shower as if never showered before
- drive as if never driven before
- constant company updates as commentary to us to fill us in what’s going on at the yard and who is doing what.

Time just flies..

Hello! My DD just appointed on Christmas Day. Can anyone share the title of part I (plebe summer?) I made the decision of not reading this posts until she received her appointment. Now is time to prepare and reading through these experiences will be a priceless guide.
Here is a question. Her birthday will be the last week of plebe summer. Any thoughts on this? I will share her address with friends and family so she’ll get birthday cards mail to her Anything else?

You should see her on Plebe Parents Weekend just before that, if you can afford to go! Many threads on that, usually starting in the spring of each year as PS questions ramp up.

Thank you. I wanted to find the link to rollercoaster I thread. I’m just able to find Rollercoaster II.

Hi! Congratulations to your DD! :yay:

I don't think there was a Roller Coaster 1 thread. This thread was a spin off of the several Plebe Summer threads.

Easiest way to find Plebe Summer tips and tricks is to click on the USNA FORUM, go to the Search Bar above, click advanced search, type in Plebe Summer, check the search titles only box, then search.

Get comfy on the couch and enjoy all of the reading!

I usually bump this ever year in the spring:

It is an experience that will bring your heart to its most fullest moments and it’s darkest. But I say that with the knowledge that my plebe was then doing plebe summer during Covid.
While my fellow parents didn’t experience Iday or parent’s weekend, we survived. Our kids accepted their appointments and took the oath and got it done. We made it as did they.
All of the experiences I have had since as an SA mom have been great. He has taught me. I have learned about being a better person.
I’ve only been to the Yard once since he accepted and I loved it. I cannot wait to go back. Welcome to this amazing Navy Family.

Thank you and thank you to all! I have deep admiration for the parents and the mids that endured plebe summer during Covid19 and I’m so grateful that through this posts I’ll be able to prepare to what’s coming, but can you fully prepare? most likely not, perhaps that will be the opportunity for me to share with the ones coming behind us. Isn’t that our call? How blessed I feel to belong!

It is a great ride and all worth it when you meet them on the floor of the stadium after they throw the covers in the air and you get to pin the butter bars and/or boards on their shoulders. Daughter to Dad: Get the Bars straight! There was a lot of pollen that day.;)

I may have only had stripes on the sleeve, but I saw enough Bars to get it right first try without drawing blood. Unlike Tacking.:)

Well 14 days has passed quickly and DS is not excited about returning to Plebe life in 5 days. Of course the impending undefined term for ROM is also fueling that lackluster enthusiasm.

Last night he said that the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas were not bad as the Plebe "stuff" slowed down and during that time he really enjoyed being on the Yard other than the dining hall changes and dealing with a nasty cold. However, 2nd semester will bring a new set of leaders from the brigade down to the company.

He will survive. We will be sending him back with lots of vitamins and snacks to ward off the dreaded Dark Days.

He met with HS buddies yesterday for lunch. He said he found he could not participate in their discussion of "skipping classes and still getting A's" as their is no skipping class at USNA!

Welcome to the club. You can be informed but not prepared. Every class will be different. Every Plebe summer will be different and not just due to COVID. My advice...read the links, enjoy the time you have with DD as it will go quick. Let her find her path between now and I-Day as once you drop her off, you are now an observer. She will make her choices and forge her own path.

And someday, if not already, he’ll see this as a point of pride. The Dark Ages will envelope them soon. For plebes, it will be leavened somewhat by the selection of majors and anticipation of summer assignments. Plus 100 Days, a chance to cheerily “pay back” the firsties as they approach their commissioning.

DD’s billet required her to attend a lot of Zoom meetings the past two weeks, in preparation for the new semester. The discussions about how to handle covid and maintain normal mid life as much as possible are challenging. It’s been neat to see how she approaches these leadership challenges as a firstie, having been a plebe herself not so long ago.

2C year for DS. This week he and two other MIDN went skiing in NH and Vermont. They met, by chance, several other MIDN and one recent grad. While having dinner out...a 2010 USNA grad saw them wearing USNA sweatshirts ... she, a SWO, introduced herself and bought them a drink. Last night the three came back to my house...the two classmates headed out to drive South at 0700. Really impressive young men. All doing well, each trying for EOD...doing well. DS reports great grades and he's looking forward to continuing his intense training for the EOD Screener on March 4th (he allready did good in the SEAL screener. The rollercoaster is quite steady now. For Plebe parents...look forward to the 3C year...it's a nice change. Our plans for 2022 include one or two home football games, Halloween Concert and the Army Navy Game, to watch the "Men of Ken" beat Army again! Hard to belive less than 17 months until graduation for 2023. House rented for Commissioning week!
