Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

DS reported that this past weekend was somewhat subdued, after his company's 3 hour workout on Sat morning. He used the time wisely to study and rest ahead of 6 weeks exams. He felt prepared but a little uneasy that there morning workouts were being put on hold this week due to the exams. His company has mando morning workouts (for the Plebes) 4-5 days and on Sat's and after 6 weeks plus the rigor of PS has become accustomed to the morning activity. I advised to stick to his schedule as best he can but does have at least one X-period exam.

He also has learned that after this week the workouts are going to ramp up again. I reminded him that since his ECA consumes his sports period, he needs the company training time to keep in physical form.

6 weeks is done!

DS company had room/roommate swap this past weekend. Apparently logistics were not managed well but rooms were changed. DS moved from a 2 person and roommate who was not around much to a 3 person room with roommates who are around. Advised him to embrace the change, move forward, and learn from it for when he is a leader.

Six week grades were excellent in my opinion but DS is wanted higher so has some work to in Chem and Calc which is not a surprise.

Overall definitely a rollercoaster ride with unexpected ups and downs but I am learning to get off the ride and spectate more, offer counsel and advise, but most of all allow a place for frustration to be aired.

We head to "the Annapolis" this weekend for FB game and hoping to get DBIDS cards on Friday. Since town liberty was granted post the Navy Win, DS is looking forward to two nights off the Yard.

THIS! Can take a while to learn, but well worth it. Even for me, who worked hard to not be a helicopter parent.

A few weeks ago, DD called to say her thinking had changed re warfare community preferences, particularly her #2 and #3 choices. After hearing her explanation, I instinctively shifted to “dad advice” mode. A few words in, she cut me off, firmly but nicely.

“Dad,” she said, “I was just telling you what I’ve decided. I wasn’t asking about what I should do.”

Roger that! They grow up quick.

Someone mentioned to me that as Plebe Parents we should wait on upgrading our Temporary Visitors Passes to the official DBIDS until May of 2022 (or right before it expires)? They said if renewed sooner it will only be valid for 3 years. Waiting until May will make it valid until our MIDN Graduates. Not 100% sure if this is true so hopefully someone can help…

We are planning on going to Herndon so I was thinking of taking care of it then! 😊

If its any consolation, I was advising a number of my son's classmates on service selection and was actually their choice as guest speaker for their Company Dining Out but my son chose not to ask me for advice in selecting his community.

DBIDS card, mid store, Parade and PA Dutch Amish market (donuts, pretzels, and pretzel dog) all complete. Tailgating and FB will be completed today and it looks like the rain will hold off til later🤞.

oh can’t forget—- got to see DS briefly after the parade in his Parade Uniform. Due to tough ProKnow we did not get long but the. Went back to the yard around 2030 and took a nice walk along Sea Wall and dropped off some of the goodies we brought. He said it had been a full week—Forestall, SHAPE, brigade PT, parade, proknow, prep for Alpha next week. But he looked good and was happy proknow was over.

Cherish any time you can meet him. It goes very fast. As the 47 month journey progresses, most hear less and less from their MIDN. It's a time for them to develop into thier own.

Shot down to The Yard yesterday and took DS and a few other Plebes out to lunch Before the game.So awesome to get to see him and meet a few of his good buds. It reassures my confidence in our great country to see what great future leaders we have. They really have embraced the can’t get it done alone creed. I friggin love it!

Alright. Check more off the list: tailgating, FB game, tailgating, Naval Bagels.
Have I hit Bingo yet?

Thanks for the parking tip at Germantown school. Although the walk back in dark was interesting.

DS did have to make an emergency trip back to Mother B at about 2200 last night to fill out an overnight leave form he was not aware of having to complete. Glad we were staying in Parole and not further out.

Today he wants to see a movie even though he still has to be in SDB. If that is what he wants, he gets

Had a good time with DD, picked her up after the game. Had plans to go to DC, but got cancelled last minute.

Went to JB ‘No time to Die’ movie, availed the first Military Discount at Cinemark Egyptian.
I can't wait to see that movie.

Was it as awesome as I think it will be?
