Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

Based on yesterday afternoon and this morning, should we talk stock market on this thread? Ugh.

New companies are out for the Plebe scramble. DS is pleased. New company in 1st Reg so he is closer to Ack buildings, Mid Store, Services, etc.

DS pleased as well with new company! 🎉

He also had a great time at the concert 🎶 last night!

14 more days til Herndon. DS completed first final over the weekend and did well. Today is tough with Calc and Chem so he was nervous. Chem is solid but Calc could be his first C that he sees on a report card...EVER. So a mental issue he will have to deal with as he moves forward.

I reminded him of two things:
  • C's get degrees
  • Everyone who commissions will be an O-1.
All I ask of my kids is that they put in hard honest work and do your best. Sometimes your best is average.

...and like that my DS is finished with Plebe Academics. He has duty section today and then plans to bum around DTA the next few days and relax. I told him that there is a "Tall Ships" event this weekend and he said he would check that out.

Next up Sea trials, Herndon, Commissioning week and then Block 1! Of course he has to pack, figure out storage and meet his new company as well. Anxious to see him in 9 days :)

What a ride.

I do give our rising youngsters a cautionary brief about next-year rooms and roommates.

The one constant at USNA is Things Do Change. Plans laid in the spring can derail over the summer. All it takes is people love/hate-chitting in or out of company, people deciding to voluntarily separate or being involuntarily separated over the summer, mids coming back from mission, or the worst, That Mid No One Wants To Live With - and room availability and roommate distribution can be re-calibrated. Probably not, but be mentally prepared.

Less then one day til Sea Trials and then 5 days til DW and I in DTA and 7 til Herndon.

DS has been silent since finishing last exam on Thursday. I did see a charge on my CC for dinner in DTA on Saturday so I at least know he is alive :).

The '25 Plebe rollercoaster ride has almost finished and is heading for the station. I know the train does not stop and we will be jumping onto the next one---Rollercoaster III: The Youngster Year for '25

The charge card entries are a special way MIDN communicate!

That roller coaster has a wonderful ending. Just saw a social-media post that showed DD the firstie with a big smile and a bit of laughter on her face while interacting with shipmates. It’s been a stressful last few weeks, but with it comes the lightness of being as graduation and commissioning approach.

Does the whole Brigade attend graduation?
Yes, unless they are off somewhere on a training block, sick in quarters, etc. Watching a class receive diplomas, take oaths and toss covers, then putting on your new shoulder boards showing your class has moved up at that exact time - all part of the rhythm of life at USNA.

Bad weather in the forecast for Sea Trials. Saw on social media some concerns regarding lightning etc. and tornado warnings.

It cracked me up, a parent shared a text from their plebe who was stoked about the idea of doing sea trials in wind and tornadoes. It sounds like that plebe adjusted just fine.

DS is also ready for it to begin. He said the bad weather coming through this afternoon and should be gone by the "start" hwover it will elave the field a muddy mess. I thought of this scene from Forest Gump...
