Roller coaster II: Get Me (The Parent) Through Plebe Year Class of ‘25 🎢

Heard from DD about few plebes getting adjudicated due to unacceptable behavior last weekend…
Oh No..say it isn't so... young kids letting loose at the end of stressful academic year by doing stupid things ? (yes, they are still kids !)
Wouldn't be the first time...or so I've heard ;)

Do the crime, do the time.... I hope it wasn't too serious.

Plebe house party about a month ago. Two Plebes adjudicated in front of entire Plebe class- one recommended for separation, one for retention. Another 60+ waived adjudication and will receive "max" penalty for their "crimes"---not in uniform, not following liberty rules, driving, not reporting violators, etc. Another 40+ still to be adjudicated with punishments TBD.

Ouch..

Adjudications occurring today for those that didn't waive adjudication. Inside gouge says the loss of privileges and restriction will take place beginning day 1 of AC year.

I certainly wouldn't want to be in that adjudication room.

The newest members of “I Thought It Was A Good Idea At The Time Club.” This time last year they were celebrating appointments and never dreaming they’d cheerfully be ignoring every high-minded word they wrote in their applications essays about wanting to be held to a higher standard and the oath they took on I-Day. Plenty of lessons to be learned here.

Could be a loss of summer leave block. Nothing like restriction for 3 weeks during summer in the Yard. If they are smart, they’ll request to take a summer school class and get some value out of it. Or it could start beginning of ac year, a miserable way to start youngster year. Demerits will take a bite out of their Order of Merit in the class.

For any prior enlisted in the group, they should really know better.

I sincerely hope no parents enabled the situation by contributing money or support for a house rental and party “supplies.”

Heard from DD, there was a prior ( several years in USN, good medals on the chest) who was also on the receiving side. This person was senior in experience and knew better than anyone else.

It is definitely a different day. My teammates and I certainly strayed around the "line" many times and in some cases ended up
in front of the conduct officer (future boss of OldRetSWO and future CJCS) but there was never any parental involvement and probably
not even any parental knowledge.

Note: Frequent fliers in this group included many future Capt/Colonels, at least two future flag officers and one shuttle astronaut.

But did you host a house party for 100+plebes, allow shipmates to get into altercations and then not own it when caught?

And yes we do live in different times. The stuff I did at college 30+ years ago would get me in serious trouble today if social media existed back then. Thank goodness the proliferation of cameras did not exist in the 90's.

My son was directly involved with the investigation process and didn't tell me anything about the details because, quite frankly, it is none of my business. I'll trust that the Navy knows how to handle this. I am sure there were many other infractions this year, probably some a lot worse.

Not 100 plebes but parties that had well over a hundred attendees since we always invited visiting competitors as well as our own folks plus friends of all classes. We had our team captains get Class A'd a few times while I was there for these parties. Plebes drinking, lots of underclass cars, civilian clothes and a lot of other stuff going on.
My teammates did always admit it when caught though even though it was painful.

Bad weather in the forecast for Sea Trials. Saw on social media some concerns regarding lightning etc. and tornado warnings.

It cracked me up, a parent shared a text from their plebe who was stoked about the idea of doing sea trials in wind and tornadoes. It sounds like that plebe adjusted just fine.
Too funny…I texted my Plebe today that I was worried about more injuries with the wet grounds from all of the rain. DS texted back “Yaaaaa! Should be extra fun now.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would guess right about now after being cold and wet for a few hours at sea trials the doubt is setting in and a few are thinking state school sounds pretty good, and others are thinking good times I can't believe I'm getting paid to do this. If I was a betting man I would say some will stop saying SEAL and Marine ground is my first choice. A few others may have realized they enjoy the SUCK more than they thought! Yes, a dose of reality can wake anyone. Note that several MIDN "ring the bell" in the first few hours of the EOD and SEAL screeners at USNA. This even though most have talked about the screeners for a couple years.

Is this picture from today? Asking b/c the girl bridging looks very much like DD..

We have been telling DD that how come she does not have any pics on USNA IG or facebook when lot of her company mates are there. It seems she finally listened and we could see her in couple of pics on USNA FB and IG...

The charge card entries are a special way MIDN communicate!
Absolutely! 😃
These are the pics he sends us ever so often to go along with the credit card charge…This one is from Sunday. He had just returned to the yard after being home for several days ❤️

I don't understand why -- only a month from being a youngster -- all those plebes did something so dumb. I know I'm now older and wiser, but I didn't do that stuff in my day. Why? I didn't want to spend my WEs doing area tours and room tours. I didn't want a bunch of demerits. I didn't want not to be able to take WEs for months on end.

I also hope that parents weren't enabling this conduct. If they are, I hope their kid was the one separated.

Soon to be plebe parents -- or any parents -- it is a VERY BAD THING to provide a home for your mid unless you or another responsible adult (meaning someone a lot older) is physically present. I don't care how mature and responsible your kid is. Home in DTA + no adults present = recipe for disaster. Worst case, someone gets drunk and either drives or there is sexual assault.
