Rolling Deadlines

My son just went to submit his USAFA application on his portal and was heartbroken to see that his deadline had expired two days ago. He was aware of the December 31 deadline, but was unaware that there were rolling deadlines based upon when the pre-qualification questionnaire was submitted and the portal created. Does anyone know if it is possible to re-start the application process if it is done before the December 31 deadline has run?

Oh no! The same thing nearly happened to my son. He has everything complete except the essay questions. He left the application for a while to think through his answers. He got busy and just logged in again last night. He noticed he only has a week left to complete. He was not expecting that. Did your son contact Admissions at USAFA to see if they could help?

Only one way to find out. The applicant calls admissions and offers to eat double helpings of humble pie (but doesn’t actually say that, just gets the humble part conveyed) while describing the life lesson just learned on “the devil is in the details.” Then respectfully and humbly asks for his application to be re-opened so he can promptly complete his application. No long explanations are required. The process itself is a test of diligence and detail management.

Let us know if the humble pie solution works. The sooner he calls, the better. I recommend that over an email, if possible. He can exercise live phone communications skills and have more powerful impact advocating for himself and expressing sincere regret in his own voice.

How did this turn out for your son? I think we are going to have the same issue. My son just completed his candidate kit and the checklist popped up, but his due date didn't change. He is confused as to what that means, but if EVERYTHING (except Medical, Nomination and Interview) on the checklist has to be complete by 11/30 that is going to be a stretch.

@NavyHopefulMom2027 I think you are good to go.. As long as he has EVERYTHING else in, he’ll be okay. Please see the attached picture from the “Instructions to Candidates 2027” handbook regarding your exact situation.

Thank you. He thought he had two additional weeks or something but then when he went back to look, he couldn't find that information again. The deadline not changing/updating, really kind of threw him a bit. His high school counselor is also on medical leave, so he is working with her sub to try and get the school portions submitted but that is proving to be difficult also. I don't know why AFA seems to be more involved than the other SAs he has applied to, but we are struggling a bit here! (Definitely on my DS for waiting so close to the deadline to get it turned in though!)

It several days of emails, phone messages, and texts before Admissions responded, but they agreed to re-open his file and gave him a few days to complete his application. All is well that ends well.

I'm so glad! My DS was literally tracking people down on the last day, but he got his in.
