Room and Board

Does anyone have a recent list of schools that offer incentives, stipends, free room and board, etc. for AFROTC Scholarship recipients?

Someone put some exhaustive research into this question, in this thread, years ago. Chances are, most of it is probably current, but in any event is a good starting point. :cool:Rather than ask such a broad question, limit your search to a half dozen universities which have an AFROTC program, which you actually want to attend. No matches, then expand your search. You young people have this thing called a google machine in your pocket, with more computing power than NASA had back during the Apollo missions.

Also research crosstown schools as well. My daughter is an AROTC scholarship recipient at a cross town school but her university pays $8k a year toward room and board. Her school happens to have NROTC on campus but crosstown opportunities for AROTC and AFROTC and the school gives ALL ROTC scholarship recipients, the R&B grant.

I bring up this point as her school was “not included” on the AROTC list of schools offering R&B grants provided in several locations on this forum, since AROTC is not actually offered at her school, but at a crosstown location. I’ve seen her school on some lists but not others. FYI, as I’m sure this applies to other universities with crosstown affiliations!

To clarify above, and perhaps answer more directly, ROTC scholarships do NOT include room and board.
Some colleges give free room and board to students who have a ROTC scholarship.

Here is the link for the AROTC/Cadet Command page that lists the schools that have active AROTC programs. You can search the individual schools and the extra benefits associated with each school. As @kinnem stated - some schools offer room and board with a national scholarship. This list should be current.

If we already have tuition covered via another scholarship/method, Can you use AROTC Scholarship for Room and Board?

Yes for AROTC, but not for other programs. There may be some limits on what they pay, but I can't say I'm real familiar with that side of the program. I'm confident others who are will chime in.

I believe others have said yes but that R&B can be taxed where tuition scholarships are not.

The Citadel will waive Room & Board for Fall/Spring Semesters for high school applicants with 3 and 4 rear ROTC scholarship, and also award first year tuition for high school applicants with 3 year national scholarships for those enrolling Fall of 2022. See details and qualifications:

helping a buddy out- anyone know if UF (florida) offers room and board?
One of the Florida college universities that offer close to that is FIU - Army ROTC, the choice between Tuition or Room/Board funded. Most ROTC students that are FL residents are already Bright Futures Scholars with a full-ride tuition/books/fees already. Other schools have in the past like Florida A&M on a case by case, not advertised.

When we visited one NROTC program the PNS said that the Navy was transitioning to allowing scholarship recipients to use the funds for either tuition or R+B. Not sure if that will be available in 22-23 or some future date but it's a planned change. As mentioned in the thread, there are a number of cases where tuition can be covered by other programs so having the option to pay R+B from the ROTC program is good.

The Citadel also offered to pay the 1st year of tuition on my son's 3 year AROTC scholarship, but he had a 4 year NROTC offer that he will most likely end up using in Texas.

Hope that comes to pass for NROTC

I thought that type 1 Air Force rotc does cover room and board. Does anyone know Answer to that?

Simply, no, AFROTC scholarships themselves do not cover room and board. SOME universities provide scholarships or allow students who have a ROTC scholarship to use a combination of received aid toward room and board- it's taxable support but overall covered. Please continue to complete your due diligence research on each specific program, even confirm within each school what each branch covers and what is not as it sometimes varies.

Does anyone know if Purdue or Notre Dame, has anything to assist with covering room and board, for AFROTC. What about Purdue for space force Rotc. I know Purdue will convert any space force to a type 1, but don't know about room and board. Can someone use their other scholarships to pay for room and board with an ROTC scholarship?

No, only tuition and fees, including books. None of the Types (1, 2, 7) cover R&B.
