Room and Board

Forgot to add this is need based. If you qualify for a federal Pell Grant, then The Citadel will give you full room and board as part of the National Service Scholarship. If you don't qualify for Pell Grant, you only get the "room" portion as I described.
Yeah, finding that out. We did reach out and were able to have him qualify for another scholarship which was separate from the National Service Scholarship. He's also interviewing for the local Citadel Alumni group scholarship, but even they said that they pick the winner but the total amount is "need based" and decided by the school.

Yeah, just do as much as you can to advocate for your kid. I found that agitating, within reason, did help a little bit in securing some additional funding. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say!

From my experience a few years ago, any school that offers it for one branch applies it to all that are on campus.
Just to further clarify:
1. there are indeed schools at present in which Army ROTC and Navy ROTC students receive room/ board assistance from the university (double occupancy room, 14 meals per week) to compliment their use of the ROTC scholarship for tuition/ fees, but AFROTC students do not. This added support is taxable if used in this way. Embry Riddle Aeronautical U in Florida is one such school. Some schools offer room/board support to ROTC students, some do not. You'll see ERAU AFROTC students serve as RAs to get room and board without cost, while you won't see NROTC or AROTC *scholarship students doing the same, as they don't receive the same benefit or have the same need. College programmers from all branches could benefit from the RA perk.

2. Also, some ROTC scholarships themselves can be used for either Tuition /Fees OR a set stipend for Room and Board. Navy National ROTC scholarship offers these either-or options presently. In some cases, where in-state tuition is half the cost of room/ board (like Florida State for in-state residents). or where for other scholarships/ aid are present for tuition and fees, it makes sense/ yields more benefit to use the NROTC scholarship towards room and board.

Be sure to check with each university's ROTC detachment and bursar/financial aid office to confirm options for your target schools, very directly. Anonymous sources on the internet are great but sometimes paint with broad, incorrect strokes.
