Room and Board

arotc Ohio State University

It may have been posted at some point. But does anyone have specific info regarding AROTC scholarship at Ohio State. Tuition and/or Room and Board?

Embry Riddle

Does anybody know if Embry Riddle Daytona gives anything towards room & board?
Thanks

Our son just received an academic scholarship from Embry-Riddle Daytona which I believe could be used toward his room and board, although when we visited campus last year, I vaguely recall them saying all ROTC scholarship students would receive free R&B. If that is the case, I don't know what happens to son's $6K scholarship. Anyone know?

ER is his second choice on his Navy ROTC scholarship list (received scholarship to his first choice), so the only way he would be transferring the scholarship to ER is if he is declined admission at his first choice.

Caution on Embry Riddle Daytona ... My son had a full Navy ROTC scholarship and applied to Embry Riddle as a back up school ... He was accepted there ... BUT they said they only accept a very few Navy ROTC candidates ... and said they pick those in their Junior Year of high school ... my son also had a partial Airforce ROTC scholarship for four years, which he could convert to a 3-year larger scholarship ... which they said would only kick in AFTER freshman year ... NO mention of room and board at all ... they offered $18,000 the first year ... which was rediculous considering costs are over $40,000 ... Luckily many other schools offer MUCH better finiancials ... Oregon State was one as was Arizona ... luckily my son is now half way through his plebe year at USNA ...
I was really disappointed in Embry Riddle and would urge a back up plan if you're thinking of that school ...

Vanderbilt gives $6,000 a year for room and board.

This is prob. a really stupid question for me to ask but why wouldn’t a 4-year scholarship not cover room and board too? I just figured since you received a Scholarship that’s a real pain to receive since the competition is so high, that it would pay for everything...Now I have to find a way to pay for the 28K for Room and Board at either VMI or The Citadel, granted I am glad the Scholarship pays for everything else.

Never has. However, the tax-free stipend is a good start at offsetting the cost of R&B. Pick up a little more with some summer jobs and a few Stafford Loans and you can piece it together.

Apply to every scholarship the school has to offer plus any outside scholarships you can find. Plus, summer work like goaliedad said, stipend and loans...you'll get there. Look into taking a language on the strategic language list for extra monthly stipend. If you are interested in languages, apply for ROTC SLCP (http://www.iub.edu/~rotcslcp/application.html). This will get you an intensive summer of language at Indiana University (8-10 credits!)...yes, they take a few incoming freshman. In addition, you will get $1000 (at least they did last year) towards your next year of school if you continue the language.

My older son did this for 2 summers in a row and was able to finish his Russian minor with just one more class. the extra money helped with extras that he needed. The number of cadets was limited (only 25 during the years son went) but I don't know if that has changed.

University of Central Arkansas gives ALL Army ROTC Cadets full ride. Tuition, room, board, books, meal plan, and the monthly stypon (Don't know if I spelled that right).

VMI is $6792/yr and Citadel $7054/yr. Both are good rates for room and board considering most colleges, universities start at $8-9000. I agree with previous posters. There are many ways to put that money together.
Check with the school admissions and find out what you are eligible for.
"Incoming freshman cadets are automatically considered for scholarships based on their application for admission. Thus, there is no separate scholarship application for incoming cadets." Citadel

Marian University in Indianapolis, IN (program falls under IUPUI host school - http://www.iupui.edu/~armyrotc) offers a housing grant for up to 5 Army ROTC Scholarship recipients! We hope to have grants at our other schools soon and are currently updating our website!

BU Army ROTC?

My son has received a scholorship offer to Boston University that will cover tuition but not room & board. Any advice? This is a huge offer but we still may need some help to cover the R & B expenses since its Boston ( I think it's estimated at $14k/year) Anyone out there with knowledge or experience about BU's ROTC program?

Has your son filled out the FAFSA? Has Boston U given you the financial aid package?
I would call the BU ROTC department as well as the financial aid office at BU. Here's some info on the BU ROTC.
