Room and Board

Re: University of San Diego

School offers to pay 50% room/board, not the 75% listed on page one. That starts AFTER successfully completing the fall semester, so it is good for 7 of the 8 semesters at USD.

http://www.sandiego.edu/nrotc/faq.php#q8

However, USD offers another 50% grant (which makes room/board no cost) if a mid agrees to serve the dorms as a part time Security RA for 8 hrs./wk. That's $6,500 compensation for about 300 hours of work, or over $20.00 per hour.

Do ROTC scholarships include room and board?

I know the ROTC scholarship does not cover room and board, but I know of a few colleges that offer free room and board for their cadets whether on ROTC scholarship or not. Unfortunately my son is not interested in any of those

We are pleased to announce that Marist College has made an extremely generous offer to the ROTC department. Newly enrolled students at Marist College who receive the full tuition scholarship from Army ROTC will receive a full room and board scholarship from Marist College. Newly enrolled students that are active participants in Army ROTC at Marist will receive a $2,000 housing allowance from Marist College.

In addition, ROTC students will now receive 12 credits towards a Business Management degree for completing their Military Science classes.

We have been running a familiarization program for prospective cadets on Thursday nights. Prospective cadets arrive at 1:30 PM, participate in lab, social events on campus, stay overnight with one of our cadets, PT, and military science class. Let me know if you are interested in participating in one of these events.

If your students have not yet completed the ROTC Scholarship application, they have until January to do so:

They can apply to Marist using the "common app":

I am excited to see so many schools recognizing the achievements of these ROTC scholarship winners with room and board. Kudos to those schools! I am no longer maintaining the room and board list originally submitted, but please, anyone, feel free to create a new list!

Maybe after the holidays, and after my move to China I'll get some free time to update all ROTC lists.....not until spring though.

How does this process usually work? Once you receive a scholarship do you have to contact the admissions office or will the ROTC unit or host school contact you about your supplemental scholarship/grants?

Some ROTC scholarships offer free or discounted room and board through the schools. Most of the schools I applied to for the Army ROTC scholarship offered the free room and board incentive.

What schools were those?

I have attempted to combine the AROTC free room and board portion of this thread into a single editable, down loadable Google document. Anyone on the forum can view, edit/update, download or print the list.
So there is a single up-to-date 'Army free room and board' list. (The revision history is stored)

It seems to be only one page? How do I get to pages 2, 3, 4, etc.?

It is a long list, if you 'End of Document' at the bottom that is all of it.
If you download it as a PDF or Word etc., it breaks it up into pages.

FYI:
If 2 or more are editing/reading at the same time, they can chat by clicking the blue 'user tab' on the upper right.

Room and board at Citadel or VMI

Any help from Citadel or VMI for students on ROTC scholarship?

VMI

As soon as my son accepted his appointment to VMI, VMI, like most colleges I think, required us to fill out the FASA (whatever that federal form is) and their aid form. Soon after that he received his awards and loan offers.
The accounting officve didnt have his NROTC scholarship listed yet, and once they did some of the awards went away - but bottom line remained the same.
My answer is based on our experience, thus my son did and has again received other forms of aid over his navy scholarship. The impact has been very helpful to the bottom line owed. The balance also was offered to be covered totally by loans.
I realize I didnt exactly answer your question, but the award letter doesnt target what the amount specificly covers, just starts with total amount $9.XXX/semester then list of scholarships, grants, awards - lastly the loans offered - so that the bottom is 0 zero. At least at VMI and our experience, we (student and parent) must either accept or reject the loans offered via their internal website.
He does receive a stipend monthly, and gets a bulk amount for books each semester.

Anybody know about Air Force ROTC colleges who offer a room/board deal?

If you go through the AFROTC college finder, some of the colleges, in their description state that they offer free room and board.
I would suggest a follow up with the college to confirm ... Link

Examples; AFROTC @ Bowling Green University, Ohio Link
Stipends/Benefits: The university offers free room and board to four-year scholarship recipients (maximum of four total awards per year). Scholarships are in effect as long as the student meets AFROTC Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps retention standards.

AFROTC @ Alabama State University link
Stipends/Benefits: Alabama State offers free room and board for four year scholarship recipients with at least a 24 ACT or 1100 SAT score. $100 per month for any freshman or sophomore with a 3.0 GPA average and passing AFROTC Air Force Officer Qualifying Test score. Based on funds availability.

If some highly motivated individual were to go through the 1000+ schools offering AFROTC and copy the info on free room and board programs ... and publish it here ...

DS is going to THE CITADEL under a 4 year Army scholarship will the Army cover all his uniforms?

What did the Citadel tell you when you asked?

In addition to benefits for Scholarship Cadets, Marist will also provide $2,000 housing grant to non-scholarship ROTC Cadets in good standing.

gojack, very useful document, although it may become dated. LSU appears to have nixed the room and board grant this year because of budget cuts.
