Rotc and West Point

We were in a similar situation and found calling cadet command helpful. DS did one year of ROTC before being accepted at WP. His college and ROTC battalion was so easy to work with about it. Hopefully that will be your experience as well. DS found that being forthcoming with everyone involved worked out great. Definitely agree with the advice to keep ROTC and college plans in place as a backup. Every year, cadets are injured at Beast and, depending on the severity of the injury, they get a choice to wash back an entire year (and can't use an ROTC scholarship during that year) or separate. We didn't disenroll DS from college until he finished Beast, just in case. Good luck!

My DS did the same, his desire to serve overrode his desire to attend USMA. Fortunately he has adjusted well in the USMA class of 2019.
