I am still "boarded under consideration". I am seeing a lot of posts of people being moved to just "boarded". Some of these people have already been notified of scholarships by colleges. Because I am still boarded under consideration, is it most likely that I won't receive a scholarship on this board? Thank you!

I really don’t think there’s a way of knowing for sure until the official results come out. I’m still B/UC and I’m just trying to be patient which is pretty difficult right now 😂 good luck!

It is so stressful! I am hoping for a four year as everyone else. Seeing everyone go to boarded is just making me more anxious.

Gents, don't stress. The vast majority of AROTC scholarships are awarded after the second board meets (mid-Jan 2020). These first board awards (200-300) tend to go to the candidates at the high end of the Order of Merit List (OML). These candidates are also the same ones who are going to get offers to the SAs. My advice would be to kick back and enjoy the holidays and then start paying attention when mid-Jan rolls around :). Best of luck!

Do you know what happens to the scholarship if the awardee chooses to go to a SA? Does it rollover or go unused?

I believe the scholarship is rolled over to someone who hasn’t yet received one.

Dont quote me on that tho

I understand the vast majority of 4 year scholarships go to the first board recipients. I hope there isn't any real difference between boarded and boarded U/C but they wouldn't change it without a reason. We will see I suppose.

I've heard it told both ways over the years. It might depend on when it is declined in the overall cycle.
My own take? It doesn't matter, and it's not your problem to worry about. You win a scholarship and it's yours to do whatever you want with it. It's yours.

That’s a great way to think about it

From what I understand most that get in to an academy and get an ROTC Scholarship do not let Cadet Command know about it. They want to have both in hand in case something goes wrong. Cadet Command told me that they get a list from the Academy during the summer that lets them know who got in. I don't know what CC does with the scholarships at that point.

I bet it's like any college situation...they tend to develop strong historical knowledge about their 'yield'. They give more scholarships than they know will be redeemed. And from what I've been reading on here the last two days (my second job, apparently), lots of scholarship kids drop out of the programs anyway for one reason or another, so they probably have to keep a pretty full phalanx of new Freshman entrants.

I am not an expert and can only speak to what I saw reported here last year, but 4 year scholarships were awarded on all 3 boards. All the first board (fewest number awarded) and large majority of 2nd, if not entire second board, seemed to be 4s. 3rd board was more of a mix. Try not to stress over it. Unless things changed with the delay, only a small percentage will get scholarships first board and you are more likely to get something on a later board. And if you earn a 3 year scholarship, that is still awesome!

It’s possible some kids who get 3-year scholarships get bumped up to 4 years because of those who go to a SA instead.

@rayrotc was one of those kids who got bumped up. I’m glad he did because he’s good people. Maybe he can tell you his journey of going through the AROTC scholarship process.

I really hate to ask but does anyone know if it’s certain that being B/UC definitely means you don’t get one this board? I’m pretty nervous about it!

No, it’s all speculation. I don’t believe anyone knows anything until the results come out. For the 3rd board last year (not sure about others) people said they went from boarded and from B/UC directly to winner. But strictly speaking from statistics and not knowing your stats, you have a much better chance of seeing a scholarship 2nd or 3rd board. Every year applicants with outstanding credentials are passed over for the first, extremely competitive board. I hope you get the result you are waiting for but if you don’t go to Winner this time, please dont be discouraged! The odds are much more favorable after this board.

Just getting back to the OP's question. Last year my DS went back and forth in statuses while being considered. the status changes don't mean a guarantee in any direction. He received a 4 yr in the second board. I agree with earlier posts - this really doesn't matter -try not to read the tea leaves. You can be boarded, then B/UC and back again repeatedly - what really matters is the decision, not whether or not you and 1000 others were considered actively in any point in time. As an analogy if you're at the mall and a person you're interested in passes you a couple of times and looks you over, keeps walking, comes back, checks you out from the food court - it doesn't mean anything definite at that stage. You don't know what each "look" means - nothing/ something? Don't overreact. Good luck all - if you have nervous energy go for a run, pushups, answer Alex Trabek out loud during a game show, and keep lining up your plans B-C-D just in case.
