Does attending senior military colleges such as VMI and The Citadel ensure you a commission as long as you maintain your grade and other things?

No.

Sort of. If you want to go into the Army and go active duty- then yes going to VMI or the Citadel will assure you of that. If you want to go into one of the other services- not necessarily.

Are you really asking about commissioning? or Active Duty? As long as you successfully complete the ROTC program while you're there and have good grades, keep your nose clean, satisfactory PT scores, get selected for the Advanced Course or Advanced Standing, then yes you will commission, just as you would from any ROTC program.

According to the law, if you're Army and have the PMS rec you will go active duty... the key caveat is the PMS rec. NROTC always goes active duty. Not sure about air force.

And as far as AROTC goes, you must pass LDAC. One SMC cadet in my daughter's platoon was packed up an escorted out the last week when his performance in his lanes earned him a well-deserved N.

Don't be that cadet and with the above mentioned items, you will commission (AD or reserve) if you choose Army and attend an SMC.

That was the case for multiple SMC cadets...
