ROTC Disenrollment Questions

First off, sorry for posting twice in the same hour for two different issues.

I am a incoming ms4 non scholarship SMP cadet in AROTC who is going to disenroll from ROTC this fall unless they medically disenroll me for hypertension first (mentioned in other thread). The reason I am wanting to quit is a mixture of personal reasons and my enlistment contract is up in a little over a year. Before becoming a cadet, I was a 13B (Artillery) for the National Guard. I did that job for about a year and then became a ROTC cadet. I have been a cadet for about three years and wonder what to expect when I quit?

1) Since the only money I got from ROTC is stipend, I do not have to pay that back correct?
2) Will I just go back to being 13B and finish out my contract with either my old unit or go to a new unit?
3) Will I have to go back to school to get MOSQ since I have not done the job in years?
4) Will I get kicked out of the guard for whatever reason?

Thanks for any insight on this issue.

My tuition is being paid through the National Guard Scholarship Program. That is separate from ROTC. The only money ROTC has given me is stipend.

If you are getting NG Scholarship money then you are technically not a Non Scholarship Cadet.

You will want to talk to the National Guard people in charge of that scholarship money. If you end up not being disenrolled for medical reasons and still decide to drop the program you could still have financial consequences from the NG Scholarship Program. You should get out ahead of this soon.

Agree with Jcleppe, which is why I asked my question. Certainly the Guard would expect either a return on their investment or some form of payback. At least I would if I were in charge....

I caution you to rethink your decision to withdraw. My daughter just did this, she was NG SMP, with a National Guard scholarship. She now has to repay not only ALL scholarship money, but also all of the stipends and books allowance. You are better off finishing what you started. Serving out your obligation after commissioning in the NG is surely better than owing many many thousands to the government.

To answer your other question...no the Guard will not kick you out. They will send you back to a regular unit.

I'm just curious, if he were truly non scholarship but using the NG state education benefits... What would be the ramifications of dropping ROTC?

That would be a good clarification, the OP stated it was a NG scholarship, not state education benefits. Words matter, so it will be interesting to know the true source of the tuition.
