DD is going to interview with the head of the military dept at the school she has listed as #1 for her AROTC scholarship application. Can that person login and see the progress and what DD has completed on her scholarship portal? For example, will they be able to see all of the info they entered, essays, etc?

She has printed out a resume to take to the interview. I was just curious if the person could already know a lot about her from reviewing her file.

It is good she is interviewing at her #1 choice school. That is the best way to do the interview.

From what i understand, no. The PMS is only responsible for evaluating the student during the interview and submitting those evaluations to cadet command

The test scores and her GPA are part of the interview, my daughter did this in 2016, so I cannot remember if she had to take copies of her transcripts and her ACT score (and/or SAT if the student has taken that instead or in addition to), or if she just did that on her own to be sure he had it. It is possible they already saw that in the portal, but I do know they are important and part of the scoring sheet. I know that during that interview, the ROO went over her essay with her, again, she took a copy of it with her just in case. She also had to take in her signed fitness test sheet at that time also, per the request of the PMS she was interviewing with. It never hurts to take copies just in case.

Typically, the PMS interview is the very last step in the process. Good luck to your daughter and keep us posted!

You’re lucky your DD is able to interview at her #1 school. That’s definitely the best way to go. My DD’s #1 school is 8 hours away. Closest school in her top 3 is 3 hours away.

She contacted 4 of the 5 schools on the list Cadet Command gave her that are the closest to us. None of the 5 schools are on her list of 7.

Of the 4 schools she contacted, 3 of them asked her to put them on her list of 7 before they would interview her. Not right in my book, but my DD went with it. She changed out one of her schools with the school about 1 hour away and got the interview knocked out.

The PMS asked her questions about time management skills, what makes her stand out from other cadets, and accomplishments she’s most proud of. He also asked her why AROTC? My DD said my first choice is USMA suggesting AROTC is plan B, C, D, etc.. PMS said... yeah I know. Kids with stats like yours tend to want to go to WP. My point there is if your DD is looking at a SA as a first choice, then it’s ok to let the PMS know.

My DD brought her resume but didnt need it. Interview lasted 45 minutes. PMS also told my DD that we (parents) were welcome to talk to him afterwards if we had questions. We just dropped off DD and hung out at a Starbucks on campus while waiting for her.

Yes, they can see it all. The one who interviewed my son referenced several things in his application including his essays.

Bring a folder with stuff from your application to give to the pms. Helps to steer conversation into what you have already written and prepared yourself for. Also shows you are taking it seriously.

The PMS and/or ROO can see it all. I’m a ROO and I always print out a summary page from the application and usually transcripts. I don’t encourage bringing a lot of extra paperwork. Some PMSs like the resume, but it’s going to depend on the interviewer. I also suggest that you have essays done before the interview. You don’t want to have to explain why you haven’t done them before the interview. In my case I’ll bug the interviewee if they haven’t uploaded their interview yet if they are coming for an interview with my boss.

Here is a blog post that talks a little about what we can see.

When our DS interviewed, the college indicated he had to have his PFT results done and submitted first, before they would conduct the interview. This may be a personal preference thing, but I'm not sure. He brought along a copy of that result sheet and his overview resume. They asked him why he had not listed that school in his list of scholarship schools, which he explained. He also shared his #1 choice was to attend an academy. While he would have loved to have interviewed with his #1 school at the time, it was clear across the country and all the rest were at least 1000+ miles away (with the exception of the in-state school he was mandated to include on the list) so he opted to interview at our local university after consulting with the ROO at his #1 school. All worked out well and he was awarded the scholarship on the first board.
