My DS has his ROTC interview coming up in the next couple of weeks, and we were asked to bring several items, including a resume. Does anyon know if their is a suggested resume format that is recommended or highly encouraged? Or should the resume simply follow the standard traditional formats? Please Advise. Thanks.

Traditional format is fine. They aren't looking for something formal. Instead they're looking for something they can quickly review during the interview. DS didn't have to bring a resume to his NROTC interview so I imagine this is a request from this particular interviewer.

Every candidate should have a resume locked and loaded. It keeps your applications consistent. It also can be a great aid for those writing LOR's for you.

And of course, you don't have to scramble when one is requested.

Thanks for the Info. The request came the ROO, and he ccd the other panelist. Since there were no specifics, I was not sure if they required the standard Army Resume Format ( like those designated for boards) or if any 1or 2 page professional format would do. Apparently this seems to be a regular request. I know 3 other parents that have interviews there around the same time. One is for Air Force, and all have been notified to bring resumes. We were also requested to bring transcripts, and DD-214, and LORs. All of which we have except for resume. Time to get typing.

My DS used a standard conservative format and was fine as Kinnem said.

Make your DS type it! :D

Oh believe me if he was not in Basic Training he would be typing it. But I will be flying to his BCT graduation, and then we will be driving over to the Citadel from there since it is so close. Then flying back across country. So he lucked out on this one.

I assume your son is applying for the Minuteman Scholarship and plans to serve his obligation in the Reserves/National Guard when he commissions. I was confused about one thing, you state that he needs to bring a DD-214, this form is a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. How will your son have this if he is currently enlisted in the split option and is attending BCT?

Right now the focus is on the National Scholarship. We will then also, apply to the Minuteman (MM) when the application period opens. If we are fortunate enough to receive the National and not the MM, then his CDR has informed us he will execute the docs to resign from the reserves (after AIT, he really wants to do it, and plus its a summer job :), since you cannot hold the national and be a TPU Soldier. If we get the MM and not the National, then off to AIT, then hopefully on to The Citadel as an SMP Cadet. If we are very fortunate, and receive both, then someone will have to think long and hard as to which COA to take. If none materialize, then on to Plan D!

Since my DS is a TPU soldier he receives a DD 214 for every active duty order in excess of 30 days. Since he graduates BCT 4 days before the interview, he will have his DD-214, and other awards from basic training. In fact, when I spoke to him today, he told me his BCT unit reviewed their DD-214s and other paper work this morning for accuracy (correct name spelling, SSNs, addresses, ect). I know the board is aware that we are coming right from Basic to the Interview, since we are so close, before flying back across country. If all goes well, and he is accepted, he will have another DD-214 from AIT. Keeping fingers & toes crossed.

Thanks, that all makes perfect sense.

If your son is lucky enough to receive both scholarships, one of the biggest decisions he'll have to make is whether he will want the option of Active Duty when he commissions.

Best of luck to your son.

It is my understanding that if you accept a MM Scholarship, you are required to remain Reserve Status. However, on a weekly basis I see solicitations for reserve officers to "go active", with no exclusion requirements. Most notably in Cyber Command and Intel. I wonder if these are one time offers, or if they come about frequently.
