I'm pursuing the obvious VP, congressman, and 2 sentors nominations, but I read that ROTC and JROTC can also nominate. I go to North Georgia College and State University which is designated a senior military college. However, the college only has Army ROTC in our Corps of Cadets and I am applying to USAFA. Would I be able to request a nomination from my school and how would I go about doing that? Any information would be of great help.

Sincerely,

I do not believe that you can use a Army ROTC nomination (college ROTC) for another academy. It can only be used to apply to USMA.
Again, check with your ALO to be sure.

Thank you ma'am, that's what I had figured, but I will ask my ALO just in case.

I'm not sure about this either, but I do know that for a USMA nomination to be secured from AFJROTC, the unit has to be classified as a "Unit of Distinction". Tndad's unit is a Unit of Distinction, but our unit (nearby) is not, so our son could not apply for that nomination source. We were happy to find out, however, that our kids weren't having to compete for that nomination slot!! :thumb:

Here is the US Code that deals with nominations:
....
20 nominated by the Secretary of the Army, under regulations
prescribed by him, from the honor graduates of schools designated as
honor schools by the Department of the Army, the Department of the
Navy, or the Department of the Air Force, and from members of the
Reserve Officers' Training Corps.

Honor schools are those high schools with JROTC with an Honors JROTC program. From those high schools you can use your appointment to any academy.
ROTC nominations are service specific as are enlisted service-connected nominations.

Only a combination fo 20 nominations from both high school and college can be translated into an appointment. Do not RELY on your JROTC nom. Put good effort into your MOC applications!

NGSCUcadet- even if you can't get a nomination from AROTC, this is not to say it doesn't look good.
USAFA will look favorably on your AROTC experience. It shows leadership and that you understand military life.

One of my friends, at a different highschool received her nomination by her Army JROTC Unit to the United States Naval Academy. But I am not sure about College ROTC and if that affects what academy you are able to be placed in with that nomination.

My sons NJROTC SNSI nominated someone last year that beat out a Senators Nomination for the USNA and....our unit is not a Distinguished Unit.

I am not sure what you are saying -

If you are in high school and in a JROTC unit and the unit is an HONOR unit then you may receive a nomination to either USMA, USNA or USAFA regardless of the affiliation of the ROTC unit. Each academy is limited to 20 appointed per year from honor units.
EG - the Honor unit is NJROTC and may nominate candidates for USNA, USMA or USAFA.

IF you are in college ROTC - then you may receive a service connected nomination to the academy with the same affiliation of your ROTC unit. EG - AROTC may nominate to USMA, NROTC may nominate to USNA and AFROTC may nominate to USAFA.

This is governed by US Code.
