Hello,

I am a ROTC student, reapplying to the Air Force Academy. My application file is complete and I have received a nomination from my congressman. I understand that there is a ROTC nomination. I am not sure what the process is to apply for this or if I am eligible...Please Help! :shake:

Thanks!

If you're in AFROTC, the commanding officer of your detachment can give you a commanding officer's recommendation, which is essentially a nomination. Ask about it.

If you're not in AFROTC, you're out of luck.

Hello,

I'm an Air Force JROTC cadet and we have a similar program. Talk to your commanding officer and see how you can apply. That being said, you already have a nomination. I asked an admissions representative personally if there were certain nominations that looked better than others. She said a nomination is a nomination. It does not matter who it's from, as long as it's from an applicable source. A JROTC nomination looks just as good as a presidential nomination, one nomination looks just as good as ten, etc.

If you're still bent on getting that nomination though, it certainly wouldn't hurt. Again, simply ask your instructor about it. Odds are it's a relatively simplistic process. He'll look at your leadership, extra-curriculars, probably your involvement in your detachment, and your past PFT scores.

Good luck! :)

ok thanks! I am in AFROTC,do you have to be from a certain university to receive the ROTC nomination?

I'm from Norwich University and I received an AFROTC nomination. Just ask your ROTC instructor. He/she should know of the process

Ok cool thanks. I actually had my commanding officer write a letter of recommendation for me (One of the 3 optional ones). Does that count as the nomination or will he need to send in another form/letter of recommendation?

I did the same thing. The three letters of recommendation are completely different from a nomination. My AS100 instructor wrote me a letter of recommendation. Later, he brought up in class that he could submit names to USAFA for a nomination through ROTC. From my understanding he had to fill out forms, write a recommendation, and then the president of my university had to do the same thing and send it to USAFA. Then last week I noticed on my status page I had received an AFROTC nomination

ok cool I'll ask him about it. I didn't know if your school has to be a "honor military unit" cause that's what it says in the USAFA Candidate Packet.

I believe thats just for JROTC. "Five students may be nominated to the Academy every year from each college or university AFROTC detachment". the quote later goes on to describe the honor unit status of JROTC detachments.
