Does West Point consider ROTC nominations as “heavily” as a congressional nomination?

From what I understand, a nomination is a nomination. However, ROTC noms are a little harder to get because you're competing with a lot more people. They don't weight it any higher - it's just a formality because it's a federal act to commission an officer and it's a way for them to represent the entire country; basically, it's just something you need to get. Doesn't matter where you get it from, hell it could be from the Vice President but a nomination is still just a nomination.

Thanks - my son just received a nomination from his ROTC instructor. Obviously very excited.

OK, literally 100's of candidates will be getting ROTC nominations from their PMS. However, West Point only allocates 20 appointments for ROTC nominations. It is not a bad thing to have one, because it is an extra potential slot that your DS, but please pursue other nomination sources.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, he has already interviewed with his MOC and both US Senators. He also applied for the VP nomination. SO he has pursued all nominations he possibly could.

Clearly he made a good business case to his PMS! Congratulations on the ROTC nom.
