Has any parent or alumi applied or received a nomination via the ROTC "Distinquished Unit" criteria?
My daughter's JROTC unit received this Award, and we applied under form 5-497 to which her Colonel filled it out with the documentation.
Would this appear on her candidate file?
Appreciate any facts out there on this path.

Hi! Im an alumni for the USMA class of 2014, and Im seeing if I can apply for this nomination at my high school. My unit received the Distinguished Unit award in 2002 and 2007. Would it still be possible to apply for a ROTC nom. due to the age of the awards given? Thanks

alltheway,
I have nothing to offer in regards to the nomination answer, for I am asking the same question, but I do know the award only counts on your resume if your JROTC received it while you/applicant were a member. You have to receive the ribbion and document. If your JROTC unit received it prior to your membership, it does not count for your application.

JROTC can nominate for their own "branch" (i.e. Army JROTC can nominate for USMA) whether or not the JROTC unit is an Honor Unit w/ Distinction. The JROTC unit must have the Honor Unit w/ Distrinction award if you are seeking a nomination for a different branch (you were in Marine JROTC but desire a nomination for the USAFA).

My son received a JROTC nomination (Army JROTC -> USMA) even though his unit was not an honor unit at the time.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact the admissions office at whatever academy you are applying to. I would not rely on information from the JROTC staff. Things change every year. They may not have the latest info.

thanks

thankyou prouddad,
daughters unit was Airforce JROTC and did receive honor unit with distinction.
We submitted it with the proper form off the USMA website.
I was just curious if they posted that immediately or sort through the multitudes of JROTC units that have cadets applying for this type of nomination and award the nomination to the very top of the "bunch" that did not receive another nomination source, but the academy is interested.
Just a wonder.
Thanks again

Her nomination will be posted but it may take a while. It will eventually show up her candidate file.
If it has been weeks your daughter may want to shoot an email or call to her Regional Commander and inquire as to whether or not it has been received.
(also a great excuse to touch base  )
